Neighbour drops in for a coffe and quick weldjob

Well it's not everyday you get one of these drop in to your place to get a bit of a fixup. Just thought I'd share with those interested this little bit of fun for the day.

One of my neighbours came for a quick visit to thank me for fixing up his little plane a week or so ago. I had rebuilt his starter motor, fixed up his transmitter and the interhelmet communications unit ( and the voltage regulator for the motor and a few other things including the solar charger unit that keeps the battery fully charged while not in use).

So he dropped in for a coffee, and a quick weld on the undercarrige.

As always there is no charge for this, but payment in kind is always acceptable.

He also has a small offshore island that he commutes to with this and a fairly large power boat.

So I accepted a  fishing trip out to his island, (and I rebuilt the starter motor on an old grey Ferguson tractor while we were there (hadn't worked for 27 years). When it burst into life we were very happy. 27 years hand cranking it..... I'd be pretty happy to I guess.

We had a wonderful day.

Jessie dog had to inspect the plane before departure of course and issue instructions about the taxiing procedures.

I was offered as many flights in his ultralight as I wanted, but the war-department said that she didn't wish to become a widow just yet and forbid it.... bummer dude....

Here's the powerplant that keeps it aloft. Little 2 stroke (about 60hp) It's very quiet in operation compared to what I thought.

It's a little ROTEX motor

So with a quick instrument check.....

and it's taxiing out of the "terminal"

At the control tower for final directions......

and away again..... poor camera work here :(

With the visit done, and her air traffic duties complete, it's time to think about the busy day.

It's tough at the top of the heap.

too much fun........

It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

(then why can't it be me ?)

Is there still room on your island for a Dutchman ?

Thanks for sharing. I wish I had his toys and property. Looks like a great wind site for a couple big turbines.
