dont know what to put here

Huge Photo removed

Its a 500 K .bmp [about 3X allowed file size] if you want to spend the time to download it to view it is over here

ive been doing a bit of testing with my mill.
not verry happy with what im getting out in volts open circit.
 testing on a lathe .
so before i do anything more i need it ask if i have the wires on the right way.
cos if there not on the i will get nowhare.
i understand the three phase set up with just three wires going to bridge rec.
at 950 revs on lathe i only get 9volts.
so if i do have the wiring correct then it looks like i need a jet turbine to boost the prop before i can charge a battery.
the b/r are good for 35 amps 600 volt.
i have pics of mill in my files.
its only got four mags  ceramic -two north and two south.
if the wireing is ok then maybe i can build a new roter. with nio mags
dont know how much the ceramic magnets power has been lost over the years.
   its not a new motor.
the 9 volts is from all the wires. on each phase i get about 3-4 volts at 950 revs
at lower speeds its not much better.  cant find my bit paper with all i wrote down at testing time.
yes i am DISLECTRIC i go blind when i look at circit wiring/ drawing/ or pc board.   but God gave me a pair of good hands to compensate.  i love spanners etc.
great at woodwork evan if i do sayso myself.
if i lived for the next two hundred years i would still never understand a formula.
i think i could build a great mill to grind flour.
so i need to beg help with wires. menny thanks from john.

I am sure your wiring is ok.

With only 4 ceramic magnets you are not going to get much out. I think you need to stop worrying about the connections and tell us more about the alternator.

Your connection drawing is correct for star.

hello blue yonder,
i am no expert but have been studying here on the board for about 3 years.
i looked at your files.
it would seem to me that the shape of the coils and  the length of your magnets are all wrong for wind mill usage.
it may be possible to remove the magnets and cut them into pieces in order to give you more poles.
in order to take advantage of that it would require a rewiring of your stator.
the only active part of a coil is the area that moves past the magnets at 90 degrees.
the shape of your coil is all end and very little leg.

thank you for the help .
hi flux  now that i understand the wires are connected ok  i can try move on.
i dont think its possible i could rewind the coils on the stater.
but i sure could make a new roter with new magnets.
i will check out the stater again to try find out how menny coils there are on it.    the o/d of the roter and width. roter has a 20mm hole for shaft .
but i can can make a new shaft to fit new roter.
if i use stronger magnets then maybe i need a bigger air gap to stop cogging.
as i cant adjust the air gap on this type mill.
as yet i dont know the prop size .   but i have made a nice  six foot prop
from the hugh piggot plans . its the 8 foot scaled down to six.
i was just going to fit every thing together and try fly it .
but the test i done on the lathe showed i was waisting my time.
i couldent test the stater and roter before as i had to build sumthing to hold it all tegether.   hence the mini brake drum and mini hub.
now i think i need to start again.
i have two of this type alternaters .bothe the same.  i did think about putting the two  together . but i understand this could double the cogging affect.
i hope to put more pics on here but will put them in my files.
flux if you look at my files i have a few pics of what the mill looks like.
but i need to mesure the roter and find out how menny coils there are so can update then.    i wish i had spent my monie on wire and magnets .
but when i saw the moters i thought thay will be ok to build turbine.not.
will update soon with new pics and sizes.  menny thanks.

its a ill wind that dos no good

well now i have sum details of my mill .
roter size with magnets on o/d 4 1/8"   or  105 mm
roter size magnets wide -1"  1/16" or 18mm     thick   magnets 5/16" or 8mm.
two mm gap between mags.   circumferance 13 inch or 330mm.
so four mags two north two south  ceramic.
turning the roter it will cogg just a wee bit. 24 times.  as it gos round the stater.  and 24 metal bits on stater. like bits copper wire gos round.
the copper wire looks verry much like 15 AWG.
  three phase i think .
but i need to know how menny coils it has. how will i do that. or do i need to know.   so what i want to do now is remove the ceramic magnets  and put more poles on with ni-fed type.  at the moment it has a 1mm air gap.
so on a 360 deg roter how menny poles can i put.
ive had a look and theres two wires copper going to each phase.
but dont know about the black one common .
the roter looks like its made from steel of sum type not sure but it also looks like cast iron.  .
now i am looking at taking the old mags off .have to break them off as thay look like there bonded on.
do i need to find out how menny coils it has or maybe sumone can tell me.
how menny magnets can i put back  .
if i know how menny  i can divide 360 and that will help in working out the size..
i have nuthing to lose as it wont give out any voltage as it is.
well it dos put out 9volts at 950 rpm.
could i make a test roter with one magnet.   i cant understand why each mag
  is 90deg of the circumfrence..
ive had lots of fun building this mill . what with the brake drums and hub.
looks like im going to have more fun and games.lol.
so what can i do now. cant put it in the bin can i .
maybe i can just build a fake mill .and hide my electric bills from her.
its hard being a noobee. i know nuthing.
so any one got any idea what i can do next (flux)
                       john from the uk.
its a ill wind that dos no good

I have had a look at your pictures and you have made a nice job, but I think the motor you started from is far too small ever to take your 6ft blades.

Changing the magnets to neo will increase the output quite a bit, but you would need to find curved neos. I doubt that any other shape magnets would make a great improvement.

Even after all this you may need to rewind to lower the cut in speed and the wire is ridiculously thin now, so the output would be too low to justify the effort.

If you want to stick to motor conversions then there is no point in looking at tiny motors, I doubt that anything under 1/2hp is worth playing with.

With neo and smaller blades you may get something from the present motor as long as cogging doesn't defeat you.
