Steam engine, wind turbine - extra wind turbine on ebay

Last few days have been pretty fun...
Friday was a bit incredible, very windy in the morning.  In a 24 hour period we got over 20KWH from the 20' wind turbine, most of that was in a 10 hour period.  At times the output was over 6KW.

The steam engine has been running well, I've probably put 10 hours on it since the last posting.  With very good wood in very small pieces, I can actually sustain 3KW output, although its tons of work and I never need to run it that hard.  We did (on Monday) produce 5KWH with the steam engine which was fun.

I've not run my diesel engine now in almost a month - all our welding has been off the batteries and we seem to keep up with it easily between sun and wind (except Monday when we burned wood in the steam engine)

This is the wind turbine we built for sustainable living fair last month.  I have no use for it so we stuck that on ebay.

Hi Dan I just placed a $500 bid in that auction. E-bay user redmudrocks. I would have purchased it outright if offered here first.

Hi Thurmond - thank you!  Well if you don't win it and you want us to build you one (or part of one) shoot me an email.  We sell a few things on our shopping cart but sometimes (especially with a complete and slightly used wind turbine) I like to put it on ebay for $1 and see what happens.  I enjoy the process and ebay can be lots of fun...

Auction shows $224.72  Are you sure your bid registered?

(I could use one at such prices - if nothing else to have it ready to raise on a moment's notice - and thus have it grandfathered thereafter - if there's a window in the legal situation in Douglas County.)

ULR;

Uh, do you EbaY much?

If he bid $500 it will outbid any bid up to that point as they get posted but not dump the whole $500 on it until someone bids $499. I haven't EbaYed in a couple years so it could be different.

Cheers.

Keep your eye on that auction, It will likely sell for between $900-$1200, which I believe is still a great deal on one of these turbines. A dang Air-x sells for $600-$700. Silly people buy them all the time, when for a few hundred dollars more, they could have a turbine with some real swept area that doesn't sound like a helicopter whenever it's making power.

Hi tritium!  nice of you to be bidding on it...
I don't think it's wise practice however to every mention in public your max bid on something.. If I were 'more evil' I could have a freind 'shill' it just below your max bid!  (I would never do that but some people might).  Not too big a worry anyhow, I expect it will bid up to over 650...  but - if you bid again, keep the max amount a secret for your own protection!

Hey Dan I don't expect to get it and I will probably get you to build me one at some point. Until then I think my public statement of my max bid might get higher bids for you at the end of auction. That is not why I am bidding but if my bidding get you a higher price I consider that a good thing.

HaHa Dan. Only an evil mind would even think of that.

Be even more evil to claim you bid it up to $1200 when it was $650 then see the fun.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Cheers.

"Yeah, and the fact that UPS stand for "Universal Package Smashers"."

They certainly used to. I don't know if it is still true. I haven't had a package destroyed by UPS in a decade.

I am new here and trying to figure the whole board out.

Is there a place to just talk about random topics and ask general questions?

I am an engineer who is relatively new to alternative energy but fully employed in the field. I am interested in what the brain trust here may have already learned. I may also have a wealth of new inputs for folks who have relied upon experience without engineering expertise. My specialties are metalurgy, fabrication, basic engineering.

How do I plug in to the board without reading it in it's entirety?

Hello Dan,

Nice to hear your systems are up & running perfectly. Nice output on the 20 footer. You are just 1.5 kw away from matching the output of a Bergey Excel-R (battery charging).

Not too bad from a homebuilt, low tech turbine.

Hats of to you!!!

Great Work!
