Love and Joy

To all of you who knew my dad, I thank you a million for taking the time chatting with him online, he made hundreds of friends. My father passed away late last night, now he's no longer in pain. You guys meant a great deal to him, it was his love and joy. Now he will live on through his wind mills.  Thanks so much, just think of zubbly when you see the wind mills blowing in the wind.

TomW here. This is my favorite photo of your father from the ones he posted here.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences. I never chatted with him personally, but always read with interest his posts. His projects and detailed posts encouraged me to try converting a motor to a generator, and it works. It was my first time making my own electricity. I would not have been able to do it without his help. I'm sure he helped a great many people without knowing it. He will be missed.

Chris

I am so sorry to hear of your fathers passing.
I have been reading this board for many years and so enjoyed Zubbly's postings.
I sit here with tears in my eyes and a great lump in my throat.
May the Lord watch over him in his new home.
God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.

Thanks for posting this. It'll certainly be a huge loss to everyone here; I just hope he wasnt in too much pain.
For people who didnt know;
Zubbly had been diagnosed about a month ago with cancer to the lungs, adrenal glands and brain; he had been given three months.
Lets hope that he isnt forgotten and yes; he will live on through his work.
So to zubbly, heres my final goodbye.

PS; I never did find out what the word 'zubbly' meant :)

A friend has passed...

It isn't often that you get to meet a guy like Wayne, who takes his lumps in life and does it with a smile on his face, and who manages to inspire and be creative.

Some people just know how to make life more worthwhile than others.

Wayne was one of the 'regulars' on the IRC channel, for the last couple of weeks I think !last zubbly was the most used command. Just about everybody there would come online and the first question would be has z been seen ?

He visited us three times since his announcement on the chat a few weeks ago that he had terminal cancer, and that he only had about three months to live.

The most frustrating about the whole thing was to him not that he was going to die, he was at peace with that, but that he would not be getting around to finishing his book, which he had been writing for some time.

We had two short conversations after his announcement, and he was putting a very brave face on things but you could feel that he knew that it would not be long.

Life isn't fair. Good people die young and jerks live to be 95, that seems to be the way of the world.

The 'zubbly conversion' is a nice example of how much impact the man has had in our lives, and how much he means to us all.

It's getting hard for me to type here, so I figure I'll just sign off with a few words of the master of electric motors himself:

"Now when life has you down, remember the "fifth"  it sure helps a lot!  :)

you see its like this.     time is equal to this :) :) :) :), not this :( :( :( :(

now everything i just explained is a lie, and i am telling you the truth. this is the basis of zubloid technology.

einstein had it all wrong, he figured that nose hairs could be trained into a mustache and he ended up with :) :) - :) :)=?   what is this?   probably this  +

now we all know that the 5th dimention is 1/2 of the tenth dimention, and the tenth dimention is 1/4 of the 40th. so actually the 5th is in t=reality only an 1/8 dimention trying to make a statement. glad you now understand this.

now , if i slap my face with the front of my hand and then the back of my hand, did i actually slap it at all because the middle was not used. this is what you call inner and outer technology. one cancelles the other and therefore the slap never took place because the inner dimention was not figured into the equazion.

now with the explanation of :)-:(  t=reality and the forgotten inner reality, anyone at all can fully understand the 5th dimension.

so simple!

have a great day  :)

zubbly"

Wayne Abraham, go with god.

   Jacques.

I would also like to offer my condolences.
It is a strange feeling, missing someone you have never physically met in your life.

I occasionally chatted with Zubbly on the IRC, it was always quite an achievment to 'catch him' online - everyone wanted to talk to him.

Looking through his files here and his gallery images illustrates just what a keen and knowledgeable man he was.

Let's hope his work will inspire others as I'm sure it already has and will continue to do so in the future.

It seems like just last year that he was inventing 2 prop PVC blades from a single piece of pipe.  I saw what he was trying to do and put his and my ideas from chat into the PVC Pipe Prop Plans that when posted, changed the way beginners built thier first Props. Here is the history of our process of perfecting the design of the ZubWoofer Blades.

Chris and your family, can I add my name to the list of people surprised and saddened by the news.

I have never used IRC and would have no idea how to do so, so the news as come rather as a shock to me.

Zubbly was an inspiration to us all, with a wonderful knowledge of the N.American motors and winding systems, they are considerably different form uk/continental practice and he was able to be of far more help in dealing with them than I could ever hope to be. I am not familiar with your supply systems and the method of connecting for the 3 voltages.

Fortunately he has recorded much of this and I hope someone manages to complete his book. He was the master of the motor conversions and has provided a wonderful basis for others to continue the work.

We shall all miss him very much as a friend who was always willing to help anyone.

Chris-
Please let yourself or somebody finish the zubbly motor conversion book.
Please let me add this about our friend,

"Abou Ben Adhem (may his tribe increase!)
Awoke one night from a deep dream of peace,
And saw, within the moonlight in his room,
Making it rich, and like a lily in bloom,
An angel writing in a book of gold:--
Exceeding peace had made Ben Adhem bold,
And to the Presence in the room he said
"What writest thou?"--The vision raised its head,
And with a look made of all sweet accord,
Answered "The names of those who love the Lord."
"And is mine one?" said Abou. "Nay, not so,"
Replied the angel. Abou spoke more low,
But cheerly still, and said "I pray thee, then,
Write me as one that loves his fellow men."

The angel wrote, and vanished. The next night
It came again with a great wakening light,
And showed the names whom love of God had blessed,
And lo! Ben Adhem's name led all the rest."

The Abraham Family;

Well, I just am at a total loss for words here.

Most on this forum know that is rare.

Zubbly was one of the finest men I have had the pleasure to know. We never met in person but we talked on IRC a lot and he did call me on the phone one time when I went MIA from IRC a couple days because he was concerned about me.

He built me a couple of turbines which he refused payment for. One of which was mostly destroyed in a storm due to a failure of my tower construction and the other which is producing power as I type this note on my tear soaked keyboard.

One thing that I have to ask. Wayne kept the origin of his online nickname a mystery. He promised that he would tell me what it meant at some unspecified point in the future. That day will never come, now. If any of you folks know the answer to this I would be grateful to know it. My email address should be in his mail program as we communicated that way some times. If you can shed some light on the origins of "Zubbly" please send me a note. Or I guess it could be posted here.

Just know that the TomW family will never forget your departed father. Sadly, he will never know the final answer on how long the turbine he made for me will last and how it will perform over time.

I am just so devastated by this. It is like I lost a brother. I certainly know I lost a friend. He will live on in the hearts of all of us on IRC and many here on the forum.

I know everyone says this, but, if there is anything within my power I can do for your family, all you need to do is ask.

I wish I could say all this better but it boils down to Zubbly will be missed by many.

In mourning.

My usual sig line just wont work today

I only have one chance to see zubbly on irc channel few days ago. I was really excited. From what i have heard was that one of our friend was going to die due to illness. What i really didn't know till today was that it was zubbly.

I didn't know how to express my feelings. But Zubbly will be missed.

I never met or had a one one one conversation with the Z man but he did respond to queries, and comments to me and was uniformly pleasant and helpful, and as far as I know never had a bad word for any one. I sit here in tears at this news... He was a pioneer, and he will be greatly missed. Everyone has said pretty much what I would have said, I lost my mother about a year and a half ago to brain cancer. We were close so Chris, I can imagine what you must be going through. I'm a newbie here and didn't know your father but did read many comments he posted. I do know for a fact that my mother had given her heart to Jesus several years before that and I plan to see her again in heaven. That made her death much easier to deal with.

Let's pray: Father in heaven, I ask that you be with Zubbly's family in this time of mourning and comfort them with your kindness and love knowing that someday we will all meet again with you in heaven where there will be no pain, sadness and sickness. These things I pray to you in Jesus name, AMEN.

Your post almost brought me to my knees. To Zubbly's family, my deepest condolences on your loss.  Over the years Zubbly contributed so much to this on-line community.  He will be sorely missed.  He was THE guy to talk to about motor conversions, contributed to the Zub-Woofer blade design, and was by all accounts I am aware of a genuine and helpful guy.  He was the first person to respond to the first story I ever posted here.  His comments and advice were always appreciated.  I am personally saddened by his loss.  I had enjoyed reading of his adventures and progress.  I wonder how many turbines around the world are currently flying and generating power to which he contributed in some way to the design and performance?  Zubbly will be sorely missed here.  Rich Hagen

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere sympathies to Zubbly's wife, their children, family and friends. Wishing you much strength during the coming hard times in bearing this big loss.

Hopefully it comes as a small consolation that you are not alone in your grief.

I knew for a while Zubbly wasn't feeling well lately but I had never suspected it would have such a serious cause. When about a month ago he told us about his illness and the fact that he only had a limited time left that news struck like a bomb in IRC. In the days and weeks after it he was often on my and other people's minds.

Though I never met your father personally (after years of talking and discussing with him, his name for me has become 'Zubbly' or even 'Z'; his real first name, Wayne, sounds so unfamiliar to me...) I consider him to have become a friend over the past years, after having spent countless hours discussing, argueing, joking and teasing (with) him.

On numeral occasions he took me by the hand and explained the workings of motors, rotors and their characteristics, winding schemes of stators, etc. When I was writing the tutorial on decogging he pointed me to several errors I had made, which made it painfully clear to me how little I really knew about motors.

He disliked it when I called him my 'guru' for his knowledge of motors. The fact that he disliked being called that was all the more reason for me to keep calling him 'guru'. Fortunately he could take the teasing on my part. He was too modest to let himself be called something like that without protesting.

What amazed me more than once was the patience with which he not only answered my questions but also those of others. Sometimes they were questions that had been asked him dozens of times before yet that didn't stop him from answering them once again. His patience in explaining, combined with his plethora of knowledge, made him a teacher. One meaning of 'guru' is that of a teacher.

I clearly remember one particular incident, a few months back, when I was telling him about a problem I had found in one of his drawings and which I thought he should correct, as it might confuse others too. For one reason or another the discussion quickly went in the wrong direction and I walked out to prevent further escalation. Two days later, as I was still irritated by what had happened, there arrived mail from Canada; Zubbly had sent me, a few days before that discussion, some very useful booklets on motors. Along with it was included one of the friendliest letters I have received, in which he called me his friend. I felt privileged and was sorry about the harsh words we exchanged a few days earlier. The next time we spoke eachother in IRC the air was cleared and all was forgiven and forgotten.

It's a sad thing we only realize what we have got when it is gone. That is slowly and painfully becoming clear.

Fortunately, much of his knowledge and experience is still present on this board; it's present in the stories he wrote of his conversion projects. And in a way he will live on in the motor conversion projects that are flying all over the world and new ones that are under construction. That is one of the enduring legacies of Z.

But what we will never get back will be his humour, his stories and his good cheer.

Zubbly, I miss you. Not just because of your knowledge.

Your friend Peter.

This news comes to me as a complete shock, and I'm deeply saddened by it. Although we never met we chatted in IRC and he helped me many times with my conversions in IRC and never seemed to get tired of my silly questions. Zubbly has been and will continue to be a great help to this community and will be sorely missed. He taught me and others a great deal, he was always very friendly and a genuinely nice guy.

My condolences go out to you and your family during this hard time.

RIP Zubbly

To the family of Zubbly,,,Wayne.

I will miss Z. I will miss his humor and wit.
Both the OP forum and the IRC will be certainly lessened by his absence.
I am saddened by this loss.
My prayers are with the family.

I just stepped out to look at my conversion which by Z's advice and knowledge is flying outside.....I will be reminded of him every time I look at it.

Loosing the presence of the dearest one is something ... well, my words and my poor English will never express what I feel. I never knew Zubbly. Yet I admired his work on several occasions. He was a great spirit, one can tell just by searching "Zubbly" on this forum. I feel we lost a mentor and a good friend. My deepest sympathy to Chris and his family. Sometimes God seems to take the finest people, leaving the rest of us to try and live up to the standards they set.

I'm devestated.

I live on the opposite side of the world from Zubbly. That never mattered, Z! was always happy and helpful, willing to dive into a discussion or partake of a prank.

I'll remember Zub as the fun-loving man he was. I'll think of him as I gaze upon turbines, as I eat cake, and when I see big-breasted women. I know that would make Zub smile.

Rest, Zubbly. You've earned it. Gone, but far from forgotten.

Chris I am so sorry to hear about Zubbly, I've been on this site "publicly" for only a few months now, and not much longer before that lurking in shadows. I didn't know him other than some nice comments he made on my work (copy of his), I have read everything I could find on his work, as well as his advice for others, "just from that I could tell he was a great man". I hadn't seen anything from him in some time, I just figured he was busy with more of his great work, I didn't know otherwise.

Zubbly and his great wisdon will be missed by all, including me as I loved to follow his work and was hoping to someday please him with the 25 horse conversion I am doing (all because of him and his knowledge and willingness to share) without I could not build as he has.

I will never forget him or his work as I am hooked on wind power and will always have one of his designs flying here at home, Rest In Peace Zubbly

It's with badly moist eyes and sniffly nose that I write these comments....and a slightly damp keyboard

The world has lost one of those rare people who can engender a spark of joy and enthusiasm where none existed before. Wayne was a man who's infectious good will and enthusiasm caused a good number of us to do things we didn't know we could do, or how to do them.

It was with his "can do" attitude and imparted knowledge that I tackled rewinding starter motors on graders and cars, experimented with multipole wiring arrangements in induction motors and transformer rewinds.

He made me laugh with his good humour, and when I mentioned I needed transformer paper, and could not locate any, guess what turned up in the mail direct from Canada. He refused compensation, much as I tried, and was only happy in the knowledge that he had helped in some way to solve a problem for a person on the other side of the world.

When he decided to try and amputate his own finger, even though straight back from the hospital and typing with one finger, it didn't stop him from going into a detailed discourse (albeit slow) on the tricks of the trade of thick wire bending techniques for starter motor windings.

These are only tiny examples of Zubblys eagerness to help in any way he could to make the world a better place.

I am but one of a myriad of people Zubbly went out of his way (and sometimes at expense to himself) to be helpful to.
A quick look at his posts and gallery tell the rest. Zubbly was a great man who will be missed by all he touched, and is yet to touch and teach through his detailed and enjoyable writings.

My heart goes out to you Chris and your family..... and to the otherpower family who didn't have the opportunity to know him as well as you were able to.

And Zubbly, while your chatting to the big boy in the sky, see if he cant do something about this Betz limit thing.....

There is a great sadness down here right now

I also have read every post he put up since I've been reading here. I remember the towers, and the rotors. I remember the post with the picture that Tom put up. He was a brave man. Hats off to Zubbly. I send my condolences to your family. One thing I want to tell you is your not alone, and  all of are fathers will die. I am so sorry that he died at the young age of 51. It's going to be tuff, but you hang in there. Take good care of the wind mills.

Thank you for posting - and hopefully we'll hear more from you.  It's a sad thing and I've been in a bit of a funk about it since I heard he was so ill.  I have heard he was in a lot of pain for a while and I'm glad that's come to pass.

I'll think of him every time I hear the word 'dude!!!'.

I think his legacy in homebrew wind power will go on here forever.

I still have lots of his giant pumpkin seeds ;-)  and they're precious now.

I'm sad that I'll not have the chance to meet him in person, I've been looking forward to that - but he truly was one of the best freinds I've ever met on the internet.

I hope you and the rest of the family is doing OK!  I guess life is a terminal disease for all of us - from what I could see his time on earth was well spent.

My heart is saddened for the loss to your family, we can take comfort in that fact that Zubbly is in a far better place now.

a place where the winds are brisk and steady
a place where copper wire is readily available,

a place where angels can do the tower work for him, and

a place where from on top of his tower he can forever look down and smile

may you rest in peace Wayne, and may God keep you in the palm of his hand forever.
