My inverter has a control board fault that appears to be detecting load when no load fan running even if off

My Trace Dr2424 inverter appears to be detecting a load even when switched off this makes the fan run and if switched on the smallest load activates overload.
Question does anyone have ccts of these units or know of this fault. I do have two units and have done comparison checks but as I need at least one for our home i reluctant to swop parts . I would like to see what inputs i should be looking at on the processor in it.

I'd start by calling Xantrex, they still support it, correct?

That Xantrex is about $1,000 new. Maybe someone here can recommend a licensed service center to send it for repair.

Hi
Many thanks.
The local agent will take it in for repair but i know will replace board cost $575 this plus frieght will mean its not worth fixing.
It I feel is a small fault that can be fixed if I can track it down. The agent is quite correct to replace he has to warrent his work.

The length of time that the inverter can operate at high power is limited by temperature - sounds like the logic itself has has failed to the safest mode possible. Not really a subsystem you want to bypass or accidentally damage further. Tracing out the thermistors and finding the logic circuit that is latched usually requires complete schematics and Trace/Xantrex have never released any of their circuits.

Good luck - you are not alone... http://tinyurl.com/42qr9l

You can always put it on ebay and recover a little money.  I have bought quite a few defective inverters there.  It generally isn't a simple problem when there is a fault.

If it was mine, I'd take it apart and check for obvious problems... look for burn marks, burnt traces, cold or cracked solder joints (look like a nipple). I've seen lots of equipment that was down because of a cracked solder joint... because a capacitor was undersized, or they were subject to vibrations, and the frequencies eventually cracked a solder joint... touch it up with a soldering iron and you're good to go.

A word of warning... if you haven't done this sort of thing before, DON'T do it... or at least don't get in there without someone that does know what they're doing sitting there to show you what to do.

If you don't heed this warning, please exercise EXTREME caution... that inverter most likely has big capacitors in it that could store and release LETHAL amounts of electricity, even after it's been turned off for a while.
