Looking for ways to minimalize

Hey, everybody. I don't have cable TV, so I just get the local 2 through air. Problem is, when I turn on my 1000w Sima inverter, I get a whole lotta scrolling, diagonal lines across the screen. They don't bother me, but the wife can't stand it and makes me turn off the inverter, wasting all my solar power collected throughout the day! So, short of moving the inverter farther away, which I can't do, does anybody know any ways to minimalize or even abolish these rolling lines? Oh yea, moving the antena has no effect.

Thanks, guys.

I'm new here and no expert but I did read somwhere that an inverter can mess with radio and probably tv transmissions. I also have a similar problem with my tv i get a strange buzz when i run it with my inverter. I couldnt find the answer for this problem either I checked all grounds and its still the same buzzing. I think these new tvs only like sine wave. Sorry I,m not much help.

You don't say whether the TV is running on the inverter when you have trouble or whether the inverter is interfering with the TV running on another supply.

I have no idea what inverter you have, but some TVs are not really happy running on MSW inverters and there's not much you can do about it. others work without the slightest trouble.

There can be other effects with an inverter too close to the TV but if it is a few feet away that should present no trouble. Sometimes altering the position may make an improvement if the trouble is from magnetic fields.

In the old days here in the UK the TV frame frequency was locked to the grid frequency and some of the TVs of the time gave rolling hum bars when run from an alternator not locked to grid frequency. I haven't seen this problem for years as TVs have improved enormously, but it may be that part of the trouble with MSW inverters comes from  a beat between the inverter nominal frequency and the TV frame frequency.

I don't watch TV so I can't help much but you may find solving the problem tricky.

Adding to what Flux suggested...Is the inverter grounded? if not, this may clear up the problem, also building a grounded shield may solve the problem if it's RF interference. That can be as simple as putting a grounded piece of aluminum foil up to block the RF. Changing where a unit is grounded can also help the situation.

Looking at the inverter, it isn't a high quality unit, so improper RF shielding within the unit wouldn't surprise me. A/c frequency mis-match can add to the problem too.

if you are in the united states try getting a digital converter box and see if that helps. in less than a year you are going to have to have one anyway and almost all major TV stations are transmitting digital signals already so it shouldn't be a problem. lots of things can scramble up analog tv reception my mother had one of those back massager's that you sit up against and it massages and heats your back that thing would put lines in every TV in the house when she ran it....

btw. you can get a $40 coupon from the federal government for the converter box if your willing to  wait 3 months or so for the coupon to arrive the .gov has a website to sign up for the coupons google for it.

Thanks guys. Grounding the inverter made all the difference.
