10 foot wind mill stator and rotor casting, this week I hope!!

Why much Hydrated aluminum powder do I need when casting a stator for a 10 foot mill?  I don't want to add to much and compromise its strength!!

Blessings, Snow Crow

I cant speak for everybody, but I have used up to 50%-50% by volume with good luck.

Dont cure too fast and you'll be in the clear. Too much hardener and you run the risk of cracking. ATH tends to slow the cure a little bit.

I would not go any more. It also depends on the temperature of the casting environment. Air bubbles tend to come out easier when you use less ATH due to the viscosity of the mix. I would say its safe to use 35%-40% by volume and use plenty of chopped fiber mat also. You never said if you were using Polyester or Vinyl ester resin.

Im sure others will chime in.  :-)

Thanks Guys, I will be using Vinyl ester resin for the stator casting and epoxy for the magnet rotors.  With the price of copper going up every day, I want to do this right the first time!!

I was able to pour mine for a 10' machine with Vinyl ester and ATH at about 50/50 by volume. It only took 1 qt. of ester.
