Amperes measuring

Hello, proud to be member of wind community. I see now and then people reporting Amps in comparison with wind speed rpm. I wonder how they measure it when the two cables of the motor end up to the poles of the 12V battery (including the diode).

Generally, they have some type of ammeter. Ammeters connect in series between your source and load generally in the positive DC cable. Some digital multi-meters will measure DC amperes up to 20A or so. Just remember that the leads need changed back to volts before trying to measure battery volts, or you'll have a surprise and a dead meter. LOL, been there done that. There is plenty of meters out there surplus. Just remember, measure amperes in series with our load, and voltage across the load terminals.

Thanks for answer. Actually, i have made some measurement like that before. I did not use the battery but i used a 12V, 3 Ohms bulb as a load and tried to measure Amps on the Ametek 30V motor cables. I did not engage any battery. The result was just 300mA in best case whatever the speed of motor (maybe more than 500rmp). I wonder what i made wrong because i expected more Amps from the motor according to the posts here.
So, when you say that to use a load do you mean using the battery as a load?

Thanks in advance.

Why on the positive cable?
don't voltage run postive to negative but amperage run negative to positive?

I'm asking because I've got my analogue ammeter on my negative cable.....and now I'm wondering if I hooked it up wrong.....

Conventional current runs Positive to Negative.
Electrons run Negative to Positive.

The current in the Positive cable should be the same as the current in the Negative cable.

It doesn't matter which cable you install the meter on as long as the meter polarity is correct in regards to the cable polarity.

I hope that is clear

Lamps can be used as loads, but they are not pure resistors.  Lamps have a ten to one resistance change so a lamp represents way too high of a load initially for some things to operate.

I replaced the lamp with a 10 Ohm 17W resistance. I think the circuit is ready to measure now isn't it. Another thing is how we measure Wattage...
