Not very well.  The gears kill the idea.  It might work a little, but I would say don't waste the effort and money.

If the motor's RPM is low enough, then the motor might work, but usually geared motors are way too fast.

Thank you for your comment, the motors rpm after putting the gears are 178, so thats low, with just a turn from hand it makes 12v easily and lights a 12v bulb. The geared part can be removed as well but i'll have to check what rpm it needs then because after removing gears even if i twist with hands it makes very low volts.

I would make a vawt and attach the motor to that - it might work. Maybe a 55gal barrel (or 2) would be enough...I dunno, just a thought. take it easy

Thank you for your comments.

Let me make myself more clear. I have a 600W UPS and 12V 145Amp Battery installed in my home. The power goes alot here in Karachi, Pakistan. 4 hours a day is normal. My ups gives me a back up of 2 hours with 4 fans and 4 tubelights running. what i want to do is somehow charge the battery while there is no power at home. I just want the system to charge the battery and we have good winds here because i live near the sea.

The motors you all discuss are not available here, even if they are they cost alot. Car alternator everyone says is not a good option, DCPM motors are good. Any idea?
