Some pics of my mindmill

a five foot and a eight foot in pieces

This is my current set of blades, which at 5 feet, they are much more manageable.  I am also working on a set of gears for a 2:1 ration on the CNC machine at school.

The splinters are parts of my now destroyed eight foot windmill which has a good story to it.

My test set up is basically a 6 foot step ladder and "two quick grips".  So one day, it was rather windy, probably 20 mph winds, and I was hard at work trying to keep the ladder standing by pushing forwards on it.  Suddenly, there was a 40 mph gust and my brother came over to help me push forwards.  While the blade was spinning at about 2000 rpm, we tried to turn it out of the wind.  Well...  the legs on the ladder got in the way of the blades and boom!!!!  Pieces of the blades ended up over 150 feet away.  Lucky no one was hurt.  :)

Sorry about the pic size of 640x480, I only remembered the 150 kb part.

Hi Kurt
This pic sizing thing is one of the most confusing aspects of this board. Many want to show their work.If my daughter didn't help me i would be in trouble also.Getting better though.

The ? is, Why can't scoop be set to adjust the pics to size?Would that take an expensive device?

Seems it would save grief on both ends.

 Me know nothing.

scoop is not set up to do that it would require hiring a programmer to add that function to the software and i don't think the Dans really wanna  pay to add stuff to this software at this point.....

Did the same thing with the first generator I put together with nearly the same results.  I just got the bejesus scared out of me.  Maybe it should be part of the windmill safety handbook.  Never use a ladder as a temporary mount for your windmill unless it is a very short ladder & there are too many cats in your neighborhood or something.

Sounds like you were lucky.  Probably not a good Idea to let a large blade set spin up on a test stand, lots of angular momentum there.  I have done that with an 36" blade set and it gets a bit scary with just that size, freewheeling it sounds like a swarm of angry hornets in front of you as I believe Ghurd described it, I wouldn't try it with larger blades.  Rich
