rotor thickness

Typically 1/2" steel would be used for the rotors on Hughe Piggots 12' turbine.  Can anyone think of any disadvantages for using 5/8" other than weight.  I have some surplus.

There is nothing other than added weight that I can see as being an issue. Usually the issue is going too thin with mag rotors, and having issues with flux losses and structural integrity. So I see this as just a little overkill, whick will not hurt a thing.

You could also start with 5/8" and have them turned to make sure they are true.

Yes the one I am building now will be counterbored 1/16" where the magnets are mounted to help them from sliding outward from centrifical forces.
