Help with tower

Need Advice on a 6 meter tower,....

The spot where I'd like to test my mill, wont let me lay it down with a gin pole,...(no room) so I'd like to use someting like what pepa is using,
I found some metal that is used here in mexico for metal roofing it's called "polin" its 14 gauge 2x6 but its shape is similar to galvanized metal studs used for construction the u.s.,...I can tell by the wobble it can't stand alone but I can put guy wires on so it, it's kinda shaped like a channel but with another 1/2 turning inwards leaving the face still open...

Any help would be great....

Thx

Rob

No, even guyed the stuff would be too flimsy and probably collapse between the guy wires when a minor gust hits your turbine. Get a suitable pipe to do the trick.

I don't get it.  How are you planning on raising a pipe tower without a gin pole?
You can climb a truss, if you really must, but a pipe should be raised with rigging or a crane.
Please give a bit more show and tell, because I can't see how a 2x6 rectangle will be easy to manipulate without a gin pole.

Hi steve there wont be any weight on top of the tower when it goes up the tower i'd like to use is square so i can run a carriage inside with a pulley on top and the winch on the bottom of the same pole.

Kinda like raising and lowering a flag.

So the weight wont be there when it goes up, once the guy wires are up
then I can crank the whole thing up to working height.

(in thoery)

Thx

Remember, the blades and tail have to go past the guy wires and tower...
Think about it looking down from above the tower.
All 4 would be in each others way?

Your right Ghurd i thought about that,...I may have to attach 2 of the guy wires to the carriage itself (yes kinda risky) and then tighten when at top.

Thx

The tower needs to be self standing without guy wires. How could you possibly Crank-Up a genny with blades and tail past guy wires coming off at a 120 degree angle from metal 2x4's. You would need several sets of guy wires for tower of that style so attaching guys to the carriage wouldn't work How would you attach the guy wires to the metal and keep it from opening up the channel your carriage will ride in.

Now that there's a bit more description, it sounds like you want something like Pepa's.  I think Pepa spent some time thinking about the limitations of the tower, and how it was going to work in practice, and the result is satisfying.

Instead of looking at flagpoles, you could try looking at boat sail masts.  Many are rigged with stay wires and the mainsheet can be pulled up a track.  The structural pole IS NOT the track that the mainsheet slides through.  It is either a separate pole with the channel attached to it, or they are made together as a complex aluminum extrusion.

Then you have the problem of getting the windmill above the guy wires, as Woof pointed out.

Don't!

If you do NOT have enough room to lay down your tower in a controlled fashion (ie, tilting up with a gin pole nice and easy) I'm assuming you're trying not to hang over the wall of your neighbor. So how is this going to go with su vecino when your less sturdy tower comes crashing down? By your name, I'm assuming you're in Q Roo, and it's hurricane season. I just think it's an unsafe and risky idea.

Besides, why not just do the tilt-up anyway and once the batteries are charging, apologize for the inconvenience? (I know, not polite, etc, but I don't know if your neighbors are Canadians or Mexicans or New York attorneys...)

But if that's where you're at, I'd have a good contingency for dropping it in a hurry.
