From Teraoka Weighing Systems - looks like 12VDC/5VDC

Hi,

Found three power supplies with transformers in a bin at a local scrap yard. Took the transformers off without looking at the voltage ratings (silly me!) as I can get electronic equipment there for free but not if it contains any copper!

Picture follows!

Details: The two Shottky diodes are numbered D5FB60, 600V, 5A. The larger cap is rated at 50V, 2200 uF, the smaller one at 25V, 3300 uF.

Two voltage regulators on the heatsink below are 3052P and 3122P regulators giving me 5V DC and 12VDC, 2 A.

The board is marked "Teraoka" and the web tells me this board is for a weighing system but entering the board number yields no details.

Q.: What sort of an AC voltage can I now safely feed to the two independent Shottkys without magic smoke escaping? Am I right in assuming it must be larger than 12 VAC obviously as that is the largest output voltage but how high can I go? There is no toroid on the board and I can see one variable resistor. Does 15VAC look right?

Thanks.

"The two Shottky diodes..."

They look like bridge rectifiers to me... are you sure they're Schottky diodes?

Zap,

From memory, I googled the number and that's what it said. Will google again and let you know.

Zap,

You are correct. The Shindegen data sheet tells me they are bridge diodes. I do not know where I got the Shottky from.

Dom the two regulators and caps give the answer, as DC through full bridge is 1.41 x AC there is little point in going higher than 12-15V AC.

Any excess volts only adds heat to the regulator, so keep it down.

Thanks, Allan, for the info.

How is your battery problem shaping out?
