finally

I finally got my 2 hp induction motor conversion completed.

The aluminum sleeve and solid iron rotor were machined in a metal workshop.
That was expensive 200 euro.



First i marked and drilled holes for magnets. With a handheld power drill and hole saw.



Then glued the magnets in place with araldite



After this sealed the holes with epoxy paint.



Then i installed the new rotor in place.



Oh and painted the whole package with epoxy paint.



It seems to turn quite easily. Can turn it with two fingers only. Cogging is hardly noticeable.

I hear some slight scratching noice when turning the thing. Hopefully it will go away when i make it spin faster. Prob there is just some paint contacting the stator.

Anyway now it's time for some testing. And figuring out the wiring.

I tried to find that internal connection point but there is no connection with 3 wires going in. There is three places were two wires are connected though.

The connection box has 6 connections in it.



It surely will be interesting to see what i can get from this thing.

Looks good and You have some connection options. Jig it up and post back .I'd say those were y jumper inplace .

Nice job so far, hope you get good power from it.
Looks like you have a 'basket weave' motor there. Two layers of three coils each?
If so and there were wires connected to terminals X-Y-Z, then they are your three point connection. To change from wye to delta, move the jumper straps like so,
 Z to U
 X to V
 Y to W

I have a few of these basket weave motors. Some are set up for the delta/wye change over (6 wires going to the 6 screws) and some are not (only three leads coming out). I've been through all the connection points and cannot find that elusive three point connection. And to top it off, it is wired two in hand, so that really had me going in circles. I haven't given up searching for it yet, just haven't had time for any RE work lately.

that is a European type high voltage 3 phase motor they usually have 6 lugs in the connection box for changing from star to delta and i don't think your  gonna find an internal star point on them like you would on a north American 240/480v 3 phase motor with 9 leads in the connection box.

Yes that's right star/delta only. As shown it is linked for star. You can re link it for delta or you can Jerry connect it as you have the ends of all three phases available.

If you want other than that you will have to do major surgery inside to parallel the coils of each phase.

Probably best to stick with delta or Jerry connection and choose the voltage that suits it, If you specifically want a low voltage such as 12 I don't think it was a wise choice.

Be interesting to see what it will do, you have made an excellent job.

First result....

I tried to spin it with a drill as it is.

  1. RPM  --  63 VDC
  2. RPM  -- 173 VDC
No load connected.
