I think you will find it extremely useful. The first version is metric only but that is no real problem.

I hate to get too much off-topic, but I have an excellent freeware conversion program (453k) I've used for years. It has almost everything you could think of. Acceleration, angle, density, distance, flow, wet & dry volume, speed, force, temp., and that's only about 1/2 of them. I'll see if I can post it in my picture files. Mods, you can erase this if necessary.

This 'Recipe Book' is the 2008 edition of my `Axial Flux Windmill plans', sequel to the 2005 edition `How to build a Wind turbine'.  The 2008 Recipe Book is all new, and much better structured, with complete details of how to build six different sizes of turbine choosing between four or more voltages.

There are several new sections of general interest, but most of the book is very specific to the stages of construction, and has dimensions for each size of turbine tabulated alongside diagrams and text.  At the back you can find a set of basic drawings of the four main types of head for the turbines.

This book is all metric (dimensions in mm) but I hope to have an `English' version available net year 2009 with dimensions in inches, and using the 2" x 1" x ½" magnet blocks that are common in North America.

Meantime, metric is the most usefyl for the courses I reach in 2008.  I am off to France to teach one next week.  There are still places free see my web page.  After that it's Ireland, and Wales, and down to Nicaragua.  Next year I will do inches, I promise.

a book on how to build a wind turbine in inches .
to me that would be worth a extra fiver (£5.00 five pounds)
or a fistfull of euros  . or a few dollars more .
i cant help it if im one of the old school guys.

pretty soon i will be building a tower for my milll.
yes i am working it all out in yards.

I do think in inches where appropriate, but using 1/16" units is a head wreck.  I learned several decades ago that decimal units are the way to an easy life if you want to be a bit precise.  And please don't ask me to do decimal inches - that is only for a tiny minority of engineers.

I still talk about 4 by 2 timber (I think its called 2 by 4 over there) but when we get under a quarter inch its a lot lot easier to use metric.  And it also works all over the world.

Anyway nothing personal I just wanted to get my book in print - most of my courses this year are in Europe - and adding inches to it would have taken a lot longer.  It's coming and you can pay an extra $5 for it if you wish.  In fact please do.  Much appreciated.  It will be well worth every penny.

have fun

this is a comment about your new book.
i am over the moon. honest.
got it this morning  so havent read it all  only just looked.
flux said you will find it extremely useful (to me)
    he was so right.
its metric ok but still got a useful awg chart.

also i found a chart for metric cable sq mm.
that is sumthing i dont understand . but the first chart ive seen as to how it
   works.
i will gain a lot of knowledge from this book.
aswell as having a reference book at hand i will enjoy the good read.
i have a digital caliper  that i can go from imp" to metric.
a very useful tool for the likes of me.
with a choice of five mills  to build from .very well done.

its  laid out very good  aswell  .

only one regret . i should have asked for a singed copy .
    or would that be extra?.

i have bought many hard back books on other subjects.
but this is a easy to understand and well thought out book.
value for money .yes. so ten out of ten hugh.
a happy wind gen builder  cheers from john.

Hugh;

A couple guys over on IRC noticed and I confirmed that when we go to your http://www.scoraigwind.com/ website we get a password prompt to log in to "speakerfactory.net"?

Curious? Did you sell out to Selsam or something?

Just seemed odd so I Thought it was worth drifting off topic on this thread to inform you.

Received the new book yesterday, seems like well worth the 17 eur spent. Good reading even after building one axial flux generator :)

  hi janne .
it looks like if you spent 17eur. you must be metric.
i was happy with the book. i like hughs style of explaining things.
plus loads of helpfull  little tips.
my two brain cells can make a lot of sense from from what he says.

the next new edition will be in inches.  not sure if any other changes to it.
inches sound more interesting.  well to me at least. "38-"24-"38
