do they exist?

I have seen telescoping towers for antennas.  Do they exist for handling a larger wind load for a turbine?

Yup - but they still have to be guyed. This is what I started out with... 3 sections of a 6 section 120' telescopic mobile mast designed to be guyed on each 20' section.

I've seen these for raising antennas for military operations.  How did you get this?  How much was it?

Unfortunately its not mine - belongs to a mate down the road who has the 3 large sections lying in a paddock! It was custom built for a local university to study wind distribution and characteristics and mounted on the tandom axle braked trailer with all the cabinets built in to make it self sufficient with guys, anchors etc.

I think he said he paid NZ$700 for it - about US$500 - which is about half the value of the trailer alone!! It gets regular use by the local amateur radio group and police for mountain rescue and marshalling big sporting events up in the mountains - probably why he got it cheap.

Some people have all the luck!!
