I am looking for a generator capable of giving approximately 50watts at 200rpm. Any suggestions?
Andrew
If you are looking for something small, I suggest looking for some way to deal with higher RPM. Jumping up to 500RPM would make it easier, cheaper, and smaller to get 50W.
What will be providing the power to turn the generator? G-Ghurd.info
Thanks for the quick response. We were already looking at a gearset to bring the output up to 200rpm so changing the gear ratio at this point would not be an issue. A small COTS solution for a generator would be preferred here. Unfortunately we cannot increase the turbine's rotational speed as we are dealing with a very low flow rate water turbine (flow of < 1m/s).

as Ghurd mentioned, it needs to be fairly big to get that kind of power at such low revs. It looks like a nice bit of kit, Chinese in origin I suspect.
Ben.
Here is an ECM I connected to a 12V 25W. Fully lights with about 100-120RPM(?), and spins with 1 finger. Video Warning! Low res and 12 seconds. http://s701.photobucket.com/albums/ww20/ghurd1/ECM%20Conversion/?action=view¤t=PICT0819.fl v
You do not mention any head, so I am guessing there is no head. Slow flow is low power. Unless the wheel is crazy wide. The gear box is going to have losses. 'Small' is going to have a Lot of losses. Not much power left to charge a battery?
Small COTS? The physics of efficiency pretty much rules out small and 50W at 200RPM, at the same time. To get any suggestions for something COTS, we need to know the voltage.
"Ralph's Water Wheel" looks like it has more water speed. It is monstrous and only makes 150W, though I figure he'll get a bit more before he is done. I am sure there is good info to be gleaned there. http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2009/10/9/191438/995
