Dual rotors ready for testing!!!

Dual rotor results!

Finally after months of saving money, mishaps and a lot of dissapointing moments, I have finally assembled my dual rotors.  I had the discs polished and carved slots to slip in the mags; I applied a primer and painted them black.  I attached a motor with a pulley at the end of the shaft and turned it on to measure my results.  Specifically, the rotors are 18" in diameter and 1/2" thick, each containing 16 mags for a total of 32 Neos of 4"x1"x1" (L/W/H) Grade N42.  They are each placed within 1/8" of the stator.  The stator was made up of 12 coils. Each coil was wound using three strands of awg 14 gauge, 200 C degress hi temp , magnet wire, at 45 turns each.  It's a 3 phase stator connected in Jerry.  I attached a voltmeter and got the following results:

At 60  rpm i got an open voltage reading of 12.3 vdc.
At 120 rpm i got an open voltage reading of 25.1 vdc.
At 430 rpm i got an open voltage reading of 80.2 vdc.

Not sure what prop you are going to use , you really need a power curve of alternator input and output power to decide.

It has a lot of magnet and may support a prop slow enough for 12v working if that is what you are aiming for.

I don't know if it will support a 15 ft or larger prop and you may find it needs something smaller in which case it is going to stall at 12v.

You look to be in the region of 12ft or a bit bigger at 24v with cut in at 120 rpm.

If you are aiming to keep it down to 12v then you are wise to use the Jerry connection and you can always add a bit of line resistance if it stalls if you choose a prop on the small side. If you go in for a very large prop then watch your offset and furling if you are in a high wind area.

Good luck it seems to be coming on fine.

I haven't thought that one out yet.  I just wanted to build a very powerful genny.  I spent months researching and planning and quite a lot money i.e. the mags alone cost me like $575.00 plus shipping. Now i just wanna take my time and experiment with loads and such, but I will keep you guys posted....

Thanks for your post.
