Tribute to Ghurd

Dump load controls

From time to time many people come into this website and make really helpful contributions.

For a long time now I have survived on Chris Greacens 12 volt DC shunt load controller, but have never been really happy with it.

Ghurd has kindly made his circuits available to this website and as a result I took a trip over the border from Hong Kong to the electronics market in Shenzhen. I have manage to purchase all that I need for 'through the hole' and SMD options.

Intending to make a neat and worthwhile job of it I used PCB Express to create a PCB which incorporates four circuits - two 'through the hole' and two SMD all on the same board. All the circuits are linked by a 'ring main' for DC supply, so that whichever way the board is cut up 1,2 3 or 4 connector blocks are available for a power supply.

I am also old fashioned and I like to have plenty of options to firmly secure the PCB in situ hence the presence of sufficient screw/bolt holes for any configuration.

I am pleased to say it all works perfectly.

Readers should note that the LED's can be installed in various ways to suit personal preference.

The 'ring main' DC power supply tracks are shown in some photographs, and in others I have removed unecessary parts of the track to avoid power going around the board. All circuits have a protection diode.

Are you selling these as a kit or just making us jealous of your nice new board?

No, I am not supplying parts or kits. This is Ghurd's territory, so please contact him for your needs.

Admin. I couldn't figure out how to add a photograph into Post a Comment

If the photograph below makes it into this comment the circuit on the left of the board handles Dump Load which can be seen in the form of 6 x 12 volt 21 Watt lights, whilst that on the left handles Low Volt Disconnect and takes power into my house.

They came out nice David.
I can barely see through hole parts any more.  SMD is just too little!

David;
Very nice layout. Would it be possible to get an email of the dfx file that has the circuit layout?

I do like the idea of having the DMP and LVD on the same board.
It does look like there's more than enough area to not worry about circuit ringing if the hystersis is ramped up.

Cheers

Bruce,
I made my boards in sheets.
Special request can get them up to 10 on a single PCB. 5x2.
