Holes in HUB for studs

How many should i drill?

Hi Everyone

I finally got my hands dirty, and started to weld some iron and begun to build my 10ft wind generator. Just like Hugh 10Ft machine 24V

I known, i known... i still need to re-enforce the connection between the Hub to Yaw pipe :)

The Hub has only four holes to insert the M12 studs.(pictures shows 6 but only 4 are fully drilled)

->Is it ok for a 10ft machine having 4 or should i drill 4 more holes in it in a total of 8?

->If i only drill 2 more holes (total of 6), will it get unbalance when spinning?

Other Questions..is there a problem when:
->Deviation in tail angles? (the 20 degrees is ok, but i believe i don't have the 35 degrees accurate..maybe +/-2 degrees angle..hard to check)
-> The alternator offset is 13,3mm (not 12,5)
-> Yaw pipe is 75mm diameter not 60.3.

Ill post more pictures when all mechanical parts are finished...
This are just simple questions to be on the safe side.

Kind regards from Portugal

4 is fine for a ten foot machine.
As far as your angle off by +/-2 you will have to play around with the tail weight
to get it to furl at your desired wind speed.

looks to me you are off to a good start.

Have fun

Hi Goahead
Looks good what did that hub come from.

Hi Eirbyte

Dont know...
Its was a friend of mine that got it from another friend, bla bla... that is a mechanic :)

But maybe it came from an old Peugeot car, since he works on a Peugeot garage.
He had 2 of then laying down (i guess its not common to see 4 holes in a hub any more)

I didn't moved any further in metal parts (just made the tail) so i started with the blades..

To keep this post running, here is a picture of the tower. 11,9 meters long
0,9 meters will be put inside concrete, so at the end it will be 11 meters

It came from the power company...since they didn't want it, they cut it from its original place and i manage to take it to my place with a friends truck.
The tip of the tower is 15 x 15 cm so a believe a should use a pipe to put the generator a bit higher gaining a bit of clearance between blades and tower.

All ok , since its been a 0 euros project so far :)
