Hall effect sensor for cost of shipping

Any one intersted? (Ruler and penny not included & YMMV.)

This is a preliminary post to see if anyone is interested in these.

A local University Engineering Department is having a 'tag sale' of used materials, etc. which lured me like a moth to a light.

They have 12 or 15 of these Hall effect sensors which the Lab Manager said he'd pass on to us for free if I redistribute them.

Data on them is generic, a quick search did not yield an exact match but see their current product line info here. Note: some are 1:1000 ratio (LA 200-S), some are 1:2000 ratio (LA 200 -S/SP35) and I don't know what other flavors will be lurking in the bottom of the box.

Weight is about a pound - shipping from Minneapolis Minnesota to Anchorage Alaska would be $5.00 so thats' the price to sample one of these, I've just now returned and have NOT had time to test them though I am promised they are good overstock/surplus donations to the Uni.

Post a comment now if interested, just 23 hours until the end of his offer. If I hear from five or seven of y'all I'll accept them, or.... This post may vanish w/o notice : )

I could use 2. How do you calibrate, or is the ratio enough assuming you use a flat bar the width of the slot?

They are probably flux balance types. If they are then the conductor position is not critical. Even a wire passed through the hole will work with the nominal ratio.

It is only some of the cheap things with a split ferrite ring that are critical on wire position. I have found the LEM and former HEME units to be very good devices and you won't need to calibrate.

Five boxes dropped off at our International Airport this evening, less than $40 shipping for all of them with online postage purchase, $8~ for the threes and $7~ for the twos so please DON'T PREPAY and DON'T OVERPAY (dnix71 tsk, trying to push me into a dollaraire tax bracket)

Showing the Lab Manager this website (and this Classified) got me a near-free vacuum pump and dibs on a surplus CNC layout when the replacements arrive so plainly I had ulterior motives...

I hope they are good parts, everyone got the same 1000:1 Ratio item.

I have a few spares in case there are a few bad apples in the batch.

Now If I can just get my work bench uncovered...

I got the part yesterday. Paypal charges you about 2 dollars or so to get your money. Thats why I rounded it up. Unless it causes you legal trouble it yours. I'm very happy with the two sensors. Thanks.

Two down & three to go... The 'receiving' charge was 59¢ on $10. I now know what my old Boss meant when he said "I'd love to pay tax on a million dollars"...
