Vawts my project

zapmk:
Yes, the Alt rotors are big 24" and no data as of yet.

Going to be many things to work out.
DanB had point out that with rotors this big

I'll have to watch out for

bearing play and rotor wobble (plate flatness) so I'll

have to wait till they get back from the waterjet and

mock it up to the spindel and then go from there.

Might need to have the rotors surface ground for

flatness.
Flux had pointed out that the inturnal resistance

for a 8 coil prephase wire in star is going to be high.
So as you can see, I'll have my work cut out for me.

But it going to be fun trying :)

RobD:
I think I understand why it didn't work well.

If you look at the rotor and imagine yourself as the wind blowing you'll see that the wind is hitting very little of the rotor.

nice lokin' dual helix!
after playin' around with mine on and off for a year (diary has a pic) I tend to feel that the area where the curves meet at the shaft has a lot to do with lo torq.
in the case of mine, at least;it seems to me that wind (torque supply) moving inward toward the shaft would do more work if it were channeled 'round, past the shaft to strike the other curve and spend whatever remaining torque it had there.
mine is only around a foot from the shaft to the leading edge of either curve, but it is 10 feet tall which helps some in the torque dept.
i probably will be chain driving mine this year as another experiment along with looking at ways to make my 12/9 dual rotor do a better with/for the characteristics of the helix

Canuck:
Nice workmanship.  Anyone who takes this much pride in their work deserves to succeed.  Never give up.
