The website used to be hosted on two servers.  It is now hosted on three servers.  Wel'll see!

It was down for the last 30 or so minutes because I was rebuilding a table.  It takes a bit to really tune a high-traffic scoop site :-)

I'm done for the night though.  Hopefully this site will be much more stable!

Thanks!

If this doesn't stop the "Upgrading" screen, it is probably the load balancer acting (Squid).  In that case, I'll probably switch the site to the other load balancer I use...

yes, much faster.

Logging in took seconds instead of minutes and recent activity loaded right up instead of getting a error message about updating. Definite progress.

I see what you are saying about the recent activity.  I'll have to look into that when I get more free time.  Hopefully it is something easy to fix :-)

Be advised that the "recent activity" page is an important and often used feature to  regular members. Since posts are not bumped up to the top when replied to, like in regular forums, the "recent activity" page is the only good way to make sure we see what's been posted since our last visit.

Hopefully you will have more free time as soon as possible :-)

The site is only a little less slow. Still take 30+ seconds to load recent changes. Some parts are reasonably fast, like pulling up a recent story, while other things are still slow, like 30-60 seconds slow.

So in upgrading to a new server, this site has gone from almost unusable to extremely crappy.

Have you thought about different forum software?

Got it.  I should have a couple minutes tonight.  Things like this are almost always some missing database index.

I'm growing fond of using nginx for a reverse proxy.

I'll look into "pound" too.  I've tried a lot of them and they all seem to have their quirks.  Guess this is why the really big boys by dual F5 boxes at $20k each to do the balancing :-)

Nice job Cory... things are running much quicker!

The 'recent activity' is still slow to load for me and 'clear all unread' on that page is slow also.  Maybe a minute to a minute and a half for each... give or take, using cable internet.

Hi coryking,

There are two areas that badly need addressing.

below is a screenshot of what i mean.

In the box Under the users name where there is

User info

Your comments

Your postings

ect.

there is a missing heading Labeled

Your Diary

It has been missing since the upgrade

This enabled users to search their diary entries

The other area is photo uploads .

before the upgrade i was able to add photos to my files.

now it says that i have exceeded the maximum limit, and can no longer add photos to my files .

Thanks for all your hard work.

it is much appreciated

.

BILL

Missing index in the DB has been my guess from the start!  B^>

Other than Recent Activity (and Clear All Unread) things are looking better thank you, but without those two I'm still stuffed!

I'm still having truble loading pictures to my files also. I still get the over warning. Never had that problem befor.

Things are much faster tho. Looks like things are on the mend.

Keep up the good work. When the picture thing gets fixed I have some projects I'd like to share.

Also, would like to access to my diaries as befor, need the "your diary" link in the name box.

Thanks again.

Jerry;

I haven't tried this before as I was waiting for things to settle out some.

There is an option I can change to increase the space you can have for files. I also upped the single file size allowed. Only did it for your account and is a test only.

Try to upload a file or 3, OK.

The default size limit is 150K and I bumped yours to 1.5 meg. Just trying to sort out the problem since I don't see anyone else trying.

Lets see it that helps you upload.

Thanks for testing it.

I'm still wanting to get back the Discussion Area in the "Polls" section

In the polls box select "Results"

You will see the results of the current poll in bargraph form

Click the "Post a Comment" button

and it says "Story not found, no comments"

we used to discuss the polls and options in that area . . .

-- To See Anybodys Diarys --

In the 'Menu' Box on the top right of the page, select "search the board"

next to 'Find:' is a dropdown box, select "Diaries By"

In the 'Containing:' box type the username of the diaries you want to see

then click the "Search" button

I know it's a hassle but it works . . .

The new server makes the site about 1000x faster.  Last week it would take a minimum of a minute before it started to load the page, now it take 1-2 seconds.

Unfortunately, sometimes an error page comes up that says that the pages are being worked on, dated from last spring.

Good work guys!

Yes Woof

It works here too!

Good call , i didn't think of that.!

PS for those that don't know , If you right click on a misspelled word , when commenting or starting a story, chances are it will be at the top of the list, in the window that pops up , and clicking on the correct spelling automatically inserts it into the story.

If you try it with ' dont ' the top of the list is donut don't ask me why :)
