Hi Tom.

I tryed to load a picture this morning to my files and it wouldn't load. I tryed it again just now and it did.

It could be over the 150k limit. How was it posable to load pictures so easy befor? Was the limit higher?

I'll check now to see if it posts here? Well gues not, it won't post?

Its to bad we can't post a picture in a responce.  That would be of some help for someone that has a question about something and a picture helped.

I'll try the picture in a new post.

Thanks again Tom.

Jerry;

Well, the file size limit I set for this test is 1500 Kilobytes or 1.5 Megabytes.

If the server took the upload OK then I think that means the limits were too tight. We can adjust those on request I think on a per user basis.

If it will not post from "insert photo" that is ADMINs area of responsibility and I cannot touch that stuff. Apparently it is above my pay grade??

attempting to post a smiley from my file area:

OK, no go. Another responsibility of ADMIN. Sorry, I would gladly try to fix this but it is beyond my access level.

Did everything I could.

Real progress...
« Reply #38 on: December 01, 2009, 04:50:32 AM »
Cory;

I see real progress here. That is good!

I see fairly decent load times on most stories I click on.

There is still a fairly major problem with the recent activity page. It is extremely slow to load and it does not accurately keep track of what I have read.

The insert photo script is strange sometimes I can insert photos and sometimes not. I almost always use externally hosted images and hand code the HTML so no biggie for me but most of our users are not able to do this.

The "Your Diary" link in the user box on right is MIA and while there are work arounds we really should get that back.

Since we moved we have been under constant assault from what I call Diary Spammers. Must have gotten exposure moving here we did not have before.

I believe we can eliminate that more or less by simply having a 24 to 48 hour delay on activation of new accounts or I would gladly go thru a list daily and hand activate new joins if that could be done. Certainly be easier than going thru all the hassle of waiting for user edit pages clicking the required buttons to eliminate the post and anon the user, giving it my password for the 2 to 5 we get some days. We have to do something because it is getting ridiculous. DanB always resisted doing this but, frankly, it adds too much to our workload here so I don't think it is too much to ask new joins to sit on their hands awhile before posting.

If you would prefer to discuss this in private my email in my profile [not public] is still in use.

Or come over to irc.otherpower.com #otherpower and join the IRC I pop in and out there most days.

Thanks.

OK a 1 TB hard drive is about $100 anymore.. a TERABYTE!  Why there is a 150K limit on photo uploads is completely beyond me. If we gave every user one MB of photo upload, we would need a MILLION members, maxing out their file uploads, to fill up a hard drive that only costs $100.

150K file size limit

15 megs space for a user. I think it was.

Don't ask me why I don't even get the courtesy of an occasional update on progress and I certainly don't set policy.

Jacking with Jerry's settings was just my limited effort to troubleshoot the picture insert thing.

Funny how no problem is too big to be overlooked, huh?

I am certain the insert image error is dead simple but waiting for it to self heal is just not going to cut it.

Again I don't get any updates so no real information to pass on. Sound familiar?

I find it quite insulting given all the work I have invested here over the better part of a decade to be left hanging out here with no information and less support from the ""Home Office".

I do it for the Community as it is the community's forum despite who's name is on the title. This community deserves better than it has been getting the past month and if I had the access and permissions on the server I would be figuring out these problems or getting help that could. You can take that to the bank!

Full Stop.

Using a mobile phone I haven't been able to see any of the recent comments at all. Get an error page if I wait the length of time it takes to respond. It uses a modified Safari browser, comes up as a Safari user agent AFAIK.

i hear ya Tom

It IS our Forum.

It has ALWAYS been our Forum.

There are a few who think the owners are doing US a favor , by hosting Fieldlines, i respectfully disagree .

Because it is the community of minds here that makes Fieldlines what it is !

If your idea is good we will say so .

If it is rubbish , well we don't always say so , but we should.

and how do we know if its rubbish , BECAUSE we have probably been there.

Because we have probably tried it already

We as a whole have centuries of personal experience , in many ,many different fields .

Wow this turned into a rant , when all i wanted to do was ask Tom if he could increase my file uploads , i thought it was fixed because i was able to upload one photo , but then i tried another and i hit the limit again . (grrrr)

Wilib;

I am no longer able to speak to any forum "political" issues. My feelings are public knowledge and have not changed however.

I bumped your disk quota on file uploads so maybe that will help on that front. Just trying to be part of the solution. Any solution.

Good luck and now off to shovel some "global warming" off the walkways.
