Buy $1 flashlight (2AA) and put in pot to dim light and save power.

???? Why have three posts on the same thing???? Do it in one post and keep the clutter down on the board.

PLEASE,

Bzzzt. Wrong answer. You will indeed get less light but you are burning any "saved" power in the bulb as heat through the resistor [pot]. Sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but if you had included your theory on saving power in one of the other two posts on this you submitted today I would have mentioned it would NOT save any power.

What happened to the LEDs?

It would really help in getting accurate information if you posted exactly the what and why of things you wish to try.

Cheers.

I've packed as much pot as I can get into my flashlight, but it's still just as bright. ;-)

Yeah, the idea was to try to save energy by putting a LED into a flashlight and using a potentiometer as a dimmer.

Also, I didn't realize diary entries would clutter up the board. Sorry.
The ideas I posted were different things. One was a flashlight with a dimmer (like some of the commercial ones have a high and low mode). The other was a closet touch light with an LED in it.

Actually the Diaries is pretty much wide open post anything you want on or off topic doesn't matter. It is your Diary and only shows in the Diary section. It is still a public area so it should still be keep it civil keep it clean . I think the comment was more about asking multiple questions in multiple individual front page stories about the same project in the same day.

Cheers.

My Dad has a LED light with about 7 LEDs.  Then there's a 4(?) position switch that cuts on one, then three more, and then the last three(something like that), which gives dim, med., and bright.
