Update : Inverter is working
« on: September 14, 2004, 03:49:25 PM »
last nite I got my PWM true sine inverter working on a low volts test

(40v) this is of my own design , it uses a 555 timer and op-amp PWM

and a crystal based 60hz sine generator chip

this inverter will be able to handle 50kw cont. and 100kw peaks

not that I will ever go that high , building this to power my house /

ranch , it will put out 240v ac , input will be Solar / Wind  into

  1. 12v 130 amp hour batteries , plus 12 6v trojan 105's wired to
  2. volts . I am using 150 amp ( 300 amp pulsed ) 600v IGBT's on the

output , next step is to wire it up in a case / heatsink and use a

vari-trafo to test it at 340 supply volts (+ - 170vdc) half bridge will

do 120v ac , another will be 180' out of phase for 240 v ac full bridge

I got the Batteries for free out of a server ups where I work , they

pull them early

Any chance of some details of your inverter?  I'm working on a couple of prototypes, but keep running into brick walls!  Thanks!  Rob T

Your own design???:-)  Will you be sharing this technology?  I am really thinking that will be my next progect, I have built a windmill but can't use it because i live in an apartment so it's at my father-in-law's house, and he can't use it either because he has no demand for DC (just wanted to do it) now I need plans to build an inverter and get him to stop complaining that the windmill is useless!!  What did it cost for parts?  I have been thinking of using these plans http://www.qsl.net/dg5sga/inverter.htm  but yours are BIGGER, I like that.

Yes I will , getting close to putting up final schematic and boards

I used IGBT's for the outputs that can do 114 amp each , you can also use mosfets for smaller scale , and they are faster , IGBT's work to 25khz , mosfets run at 50khz or higher

Holy guacamole, that is a lot of power !

Any chance of some pictures ? High voltage DC switching straight out of the battery, a bit like a prosine without the stepup stage ?

That's pretty clever... be careful where you drop that screwdriver !

Ok I have given up on IGBT's , even though I got them to work , I has not happen with them , so Last night I built  my Mosfet version using IRFP360 14amp (50 amp pulsed) 400v mosfets

this one I built it with 12 of those 6 per phase , this board has both 120v ac and 240v ac out , and this one worked the first time , did not have to muck around with it like the IGBT version , not only that I changed the switching freq back to 40khz and it work s and much cleaner output also

the above board should be able to do 240v ac 100 amps cont. , I problaby will run 3 of them in parallel

if you do not need 240 you could jumper the one board same phase and parallel the outputs

I guess I will use my Monster IGBT's in charge pump stuff

also when I have tested it at high volts and I know it works I will post the schematics

, board layout

I made the 2 sided board with the laser printer method

this should have  been  (I has not happen with them )   , I was not happy with them
