Thanks to Trivo's idea I finnaly got this up and turning at a couple of decent speeds.
here are the readings I got. THese are rrectified.
lighter windings
no load 350 RPM 14.5
1300 RPM 50
Loaded (12v headlight)
350 RPM 3.5 Dim light
1300 RPM 15.75 Bright
Heavier windings
No load 350 RPM 16
1350 RPM 65
loaded
350 RPM about 9 keeps tearing tape (moderate light)
1300 RPM who knows tears tape right off
Very definate drag!!!!
Headlight measures .6 ohms
I realize these are not the most scientific readings and I couldn't get a very good amperage reading(need more duct tape), that's what I have so far.
Two questions
(1) I have about 100' to run this output, charging 12v battery(ies), plan to use #14 romex wire, should I rectify at genny or at battery?
(2) What size rotor should I shoot for? I generally have a pretty brisk wind up hear so low wind is not really a problem (say 10MPH+)
Well there is is, have I got something here? I regret that this probably won't last to long because the motor has bushings instead of bearings (but it's what I could come up with) even if I get a few months out of it, it will be part of the learning curve DanB mentioned in a recent post.
NOW TO FIND A BIGGER ONE!!!!!!!!!!
I know where I can get an old 3 HP DC motor, trouble is I can't lift it!!!!!
Any theories, hints, help, will as always be greatly appreciated
