2 pole conversion update.
« on: February 27, 2005, 06:16:54 PM »
I normaly do the rpm test first. Not this time. I knew this alt would need high rpm in the wind so I through a 2 blade together real fast. It a 49" Jerry blade with Mike mods.

Then I did the rpm test the following day. i used the same battery bank for the load in both tests. The battery bank in my S-10 wind test truck.

This is why you'll see the rpm test stuff setting on the ground next to the test truck.

I think the rpm test will also indicate the blade rpm. I'm thinking if I get 3 amps at 1125 rpm that 3 amps at 20 mph would mean the blades is spinning at 1125 rpm?

Wind test         rpm

  1. mph 1 amp, 860 rpm 1 amp
  2. mph 2 amp, 955 rpm 2 amp
  3. mph 3 amp,1125 rpm 3 amp
  4. mph 4 amp,1237 rpm 4 amp
  5. mph 5 amp,1371 rpm 5 amp
  6. mph 6 amp,1508 rpm 6 amp
  7. mph 8 amp,1793 rpm 8 amp

It did 7 amps at 1647 rpm. Strange how it would go up 1 amp for each 5 mph.

These are very pore #s and low output but this was just a study test.

The blade was very smooth and fast. The fast was do to not much of a load from this very week alt.

This is the wind test.

This is the rpm test using the light dimmer/motor speed control.

It went up 2 amps between 35 and 40.  Maybe it just needs a lot more rpms than normal to get going?  Half the poles/double the RPM kind of logic...
