axial pmg in holland
« on: May 13, 2005, 08:57:24 AM »
In 2000 I bought myself a dutch windturbine (Fortis "passaat") a simple turbine probably a construction based on an chinees gen. Technical a very poor gen. After some trouble with the gen and the voltage regulator I have desided to build my own axial pmg and change this with the chinees pmg.

10 may 2005:

I went to the graveyard of cars and diabled a few rear wheel hubs from a 740 volvo. It was quit a lot of work because the screws were very rusty but with some help from the owner after a few hours I had some nice hubs.

Hallo Omweg,

So you took the detour, should have built one yourself rightaway.

Am in NL myself (just below Bergen op Zoom) and am experimenting a bit with generators recently. Am not bothering with Volvo's, since I have access to a machine shop. Am currently building a 10W windgenerator, and just started building a 200-300W hometrainer generator. Next plan will be a real windgenerator, 300W or something in that region. Now, if only I had somewhere to place it :-(

So, now we have 3 dutchies on this board (JeroenH too). Then again, we have a name to keep high...

Grtz,

Peter,

The Netherlands.

Can you detail, why the Chinese gen was POOR ?.

Have you measure the Voltage/RPM unloaded and loaded ?

The ideal loading would be to load it with a load that drops the unloaded voltage by 10 - 15 %.

With these values one can calculate the true power output of the gen.

I can not excacly detail the chinese gen, but by experience I have never seen high loads, even when the batteries where low the maximum apms I saw were about 10-12 A. For me this looks very poor because the manufacturer sells the turbine for a 1.5 kW machine (1500/24 about 60 amps).

So it is not a scientific conclusion but an empherical conclusion.

for now i have only a few pictures to give an impression. The tower I've used is a 4'' standard pipe. Because the turbine is on a houseboot i don't have to much room to rectile the tower so my solution is an lyre with a transmission of 1:18

The total height of the tower from the waterlevel is approx 11 mtr. The possition of the houseboat is not perfect for wind directions.

But together with some solar panels it gives electricity.
