Jerry's dual rotor update.
« on: January 24, 2006, 04:24:45 AM »
I did wind the 9 coils. Also the rotor discs are ready with magnets glued.

I normaly glue magnets in my motor conversions with regular slow set clear epoxi.

This time I'ved used Locktite marine. Its white and black and mixes to gray.

This stuff seems much better than the clear stuff and its completly water proof.

I glued a set of 4 magnets on a motor conversion also. Theres no iron in this glue like JB Weld so theres no glue creaping problems.

I'll be using this glue from now on.

I'm thinking of painting the disc/magnet rotor with the redish/brownish primer and then a bright canery yellow. Anyone see any problems using this paint on these rotors?

Trying to keep the shiny steel parts from rusting.

I'll cast the coils into the stator in a few days. More pix then.

The only thing I can think of off hand, and I don't know a lot about it, is that once upon a time, a long time ago, I was told that the redish brown primer contains ferric oxide.  I'm not sure if that is true, but if there is enough of it, and you use a thick layer of primer, it might contribute to a hysterisis loss, although I'd be curious if you could even measure it at full power if it did.  Rich

jerry , looking forward to the testing/completion of your dual rotor with the unique diode set up. it's got some real posibilities. you will be running the dc current down the tower, will there be much loss of power?     yellow paint is notorius for being transparent . grey primer would be better. here's a tip, put a single coat of white paint over the primer . it will help make the yellow paint much brighter.

finally had a little wind here back on the 20th--my angled hub blades work great..

even thou it was a light wind -had no problem powering up a headlight..

should top out 20 plus amps in a good wind..

Hi Rich.

Did aa trest today. Painted a 2" lingth strip of paper 2"X10". Let it dry then held a NEO close to it. It was atracted to the NEO. Igues there is iron in that redish primer.

I had some white enamil epoxi appliance paint so I painted the rotors with that. That was this morning its 10:00 PM and the paint is not quite cuered yet. Should be good and dry tommorow?

It covered real good. I'll paint the yellow on tommorow.

Hi electrondady1

I  did the white paint first. It covered real good. Its epoxi so it should be tuff.

I'll paint the yellow on tommorow.

Yep the DC goes right down the mast center. I was digging through the old motors tonight. Found all 9 of the diode bridges. I'll mount them on the stator support plate soon and wire them all up.

Might try to cast the stator tommorow? 2 sets of 2 wafers are done so now just drop the coils in and pure on the reson.

wow, jerry i didn't know you were using epoxy. it cures really slick . you beter give is a sanding or you will have long term trouble with the yellow paint sticking to the surface.

I did have a problem. The yellow paint buckeled and rinkeled up like and old dryed up creek bed.

I don't think the regular paint liked the epoxi paint. I'll do a littel sanding and reshoot.
