Spinner's LOW tech
« on: March 30, 2006, 02:26:23 PM »
many of you may have seen my references to my version of low tech test facility in my lil workshop

well, thanks to an old friend of mine da spinner has stepped up <G> a little

just got 2 Fencor DC motor drives: 1 with a dc torque motor and one (not shown) with a pwm type motor, also an ac motor driving a gear reducer with speed/torque controller ( not shown, but about to become my coil winder) and two helical shaft motors with LOTS of wires stickin' out that appear at first glance to be dc w/o controllers...WOW!

I have no idea how/if images will magically appear on here

no more trying to A. brace myself and try to control the 'ol 1/2" drill motor while B. attempting to watch one or two meters and  C. the speed readout disk ( my elbow won't get snapped around as much, either )

here is the new setup

note: the pot in "crude" with the fan blowing on it holds my stacked 3phase rectifiers

well, however this post turns out............hope ya joined me in chucklin' a lil

just in case: the images referred to are: "crude..", "stepup..." & "sd..." in my files

note: promise to refrain from pic posting til I get it right!

thanx

[editor's note] your pics were to large to put them in the story so i made them links instead.

Hi spinner , can you describe what you have inthe second picture ? looks like one honkin motor driving your test setup?some dc motors of that size have three extra wires for precise positioning and can be used to give you the RPMs.

hi Willib

the motor in the pic is a DC torque motor with a Fencor control unit, it does not have the tac/encoder wires comming out...I got 2 other ones that have a bundle of additional wires BUT they have helical ( think that is the correct term) machined shafts, no data plates and are without controlers...i guess they were part of some kinda CNC or Bridgeport setup.....I have not had a chance to play with them at all...IF they do/can operate might be good for somethin' have no idea what tho...

Note: it seems like that place had Fencore controls on lots of units...another one I got is a pwm type unit..all i know about it is..that it seems to run ok

just got a Fencore manual so will try and wade thru it as best I can..(can't use a scope to set it up/test it properly cause I don't have one or know how to use one!

like windstuff Ed always says: fun!

thanx
