First Project
« on: May 08, 2006, 09:21:02 PM »
Here's a shot of my first project. Ametek 40 vdc with a set of 18" blades from TLG Windpower. Works great as a battery charger at my cabin. I've seen 8 amps at 12vdc in a good breeze, about what's expected. Runs very quiet and I'm impressed with the whole thing. Next project is a 10 foot machine from DanB's design. Already searching for parts!!

How long has it been up?

Any problems with the blades?

The generator is currently not up. I work at sea for 6 weeks at a time, and since it is at my cabin, I only put it up while I am home, for 6 weeks at a stretch. It has been up for some very strong winds, about 65-70 Kph, and runs very quiet and smooth. At those wind speeds, I noticed it was just begining to furl. I can't really say much about the blades until I see it spinning for a longer time, but I can state that the blades, hub and shaft adaptor are all very good quality and look robust. Some day I'll get a diversion load controller and leave it up full time.

Sounds good. I'm wondering about, which kind of aluminum the manufacturer has used for the blades.
