torkmaster update
« on: June 14, 2006, 09:25:52 PM »
Got a camera with optics now

So have to show that I'm really working!

I widened up the mould on the most outer part.I delimited the bladeshape with

nails and tape.I opened up the shape at the base of the blade.Looks better.

After waxing, drying and polyvinylalcohol and drying put on the gelcoat.

This is the gelcoat for moulds.Came out very bad.It got soft when I went

glassing on it and messed up.Maybe it didn't cure well du to low temp.(about 10°C)

Next time I start glassing straight on the mould. So I can polish the inside

before putting the finishing gelcoat.(there are quit some imperfections

on the wooden mold)

these are the glassing materials

this is the famous roller.

it was finally not of much use.It tended to mess up the glas fiber and the washers

got stick together after the firdt use Even after soaking it in aceton.

I did all the glassing with a brush, small amounts of resin each time.

I did one layer of "cloth"heavier cloth at the base and light cloth at the outside

and one and a half layers of mat,two layers at the base  and one on the outer part.

I evened some with the rasp.

It came easily off the mould. Then I cut the edges with a diskmill (carefull with that!)

Then two layers of resin, then sanding and finishing gelcoat

Here fixing together the two blades.Trick with wire through the center to space

them at 180 degrees

So far this time.Soon it will be flying

cheers,

Stonebrain, you will be teaching the future generation about fiberglas. Looks like a great big sea shell by the sea shore. Windmills are an art-form! Can't wait till you post it flying. Joe.
