Thanks for sharing!

Good to have a look at a 'real, professional' windmill. Have never been to one up close. All I've seen are pictures of homebuilt things on this board, and the things I've built myself.

There's quite a bit of electronics in there too? Hadn't expected this.

If it would be possible to see some pix of the yawing system or any other interesting tidbits (apart from the actual generator part).... Well, you know what they say. A picture beats a thousand words. By now you've posted the equivalent of several ten-thousands of words. :)

Quaz,

Many thanks for the pictures!!! I've always wanted to see detailed pictures of the 403 guts. Never found any on the web...

How's your caliper after touching those neos?

I have a plastic one to measure magnetes ; )

Any guess as to the circuit's purpose?

Some caps look tiny, some look huge.

G-, The circuit in this unit has a dual purpose. One is the regulate the voltage to the set charge level. This is done by a small trim pot on the side of the unit. The chip on the board is a comparator circuit and turn the power off when the voltage of the batteries equal the set voltage. The second is an over speed brake. There are two moc 3011 opto couplers. They are the two small 6 lead white chips to the left. These are thyristor drivers and must control the shut down and regulation. There are also two fets or transistors mounted on the bridge rectifiers. Also I am guessing at most of this. QUAZ

Also, the three caps at the bottom right may look like they are paralleled over the brushes, to reduce electrical/RF noise from the brushes+sliprings. Just guessing here, maybe you can confirm.

I hadn't yet thought about the fact that brushes may need a cap paralleled over them, but it does make sense.

(how 'bout drawing us a nice schematic, being the reverse engineer you are ;) (just teasing!))
