Solar Scooter
« on: August 10, 2006, 01:47:19 PM »
A few years back we (my brothers and I)

Bought my mom's husband a scooter to use to get around on

after he retired.

My mom also got to retire this last spring, !!!!!!!   :)

The other day she called and was letting me know

that they were getting rid of some stuff and thought I might want

the deck table for the cabin. I said yes.

Then she asked about the scooter,

I said no Ma, (we call them "Ma n Pa")

The deal was that I get it next being 2nd crippled up

remember? She laughed and reminded Pa of that.

She said only if I never let any kids ride it. I

said thats right, I remember laughing at Pa being bucked off it

then getting bucked off it a few minutes later. LOL

Since then Pa added dual rears and locked up the articulating

for saftey reasons. LOL

:)

Battery showed less than one volt

Dual motercycle batteries showed about 4.5 VDC

even being about dry.

I refilled the bike ones Pa had added for extra range.

I'll post more later.

:)

Finally a chance to get back to this one!   LOL

:)

I got this for free!! (sort of!)

Main battery is dead, less than 1 volt, (.167 VDC).

:(

Extra two motercycle type batteries @ 4.5 VDC. :(

After filling then with distilled water and

letting them sit on Ametek 30 MiniMill for a few days

They are now showing 5.67 VDC,

stupid me and my not down the tower center top with the wires, they keep

getting wound up and un-plugging with good winds.

O-well, learned from that one!

Pa had added the rear dual with mud flaps, I'll take them off I'm sure.

He said that they don't work so well in the grass n dirt.

This thing is street legal with turn, head and brake lights.

I'll be trying to hop it up some, for more speed and maybe range!

:)

Funny stuff about this motor,

Book states- 3/4 HP

Motor Tag info-

motor # 60.101     2/99

HP 1/2,  Amps 40,  Volts 24 DC, Hz 0

Watts 960

Ratio 10:1, RPM 500, class H

Duty: 30 min On, 15 Off

Ser:  1220

 Chian Tzong

Lets see, 24 times 40 is 960.

And one HP is 746 Watts.

???????????

The Solar part-

The cover and even the panel are scuffed up,

The cover bad, the panel a little bit.

But the panel works, testing indoor it showed 12.05 VDC easy.

When held closer to light it got up to 24 VDC.

So, it looks like I"ll be battery shopping

Stock #

 Long # WP20-24

  24V 20 Ah

Found one on-line at about $78.00 USD

Didn't check shipping yet

Any clues to Hop-ups or battery source ????????/

Thanks

:)

The half horsepower is shaft output power. 24 volts times 40 amps is input power.

Just a guess.

While trying to charge the main battery today using

the panel alone without any built in charge control stuff

I saw the panel get up to 30 VDC output !!!!!!!!

Being 300mA thats about 9 watts

But, tonight after un-hooking the panel the bat volts

just dropped to 7 and kept falling so I un-hooked the meter and walked away.

:(

Solar Scooter-

I finally got power for it.

I ended up getting two 12 VDC 35Ah

ones and of course they bolth can't fit into battery box.

I test ran it yesterday and it would only go about 20 mph with Turbo button On.

But, I was pulling a bit to the right, So I checked the Tires and found them all a lot low on Air.

I did't retest after Tire filling yet.

All things worked, but still have not tested the quick (4 Amp) charger.
