A bunch of old windmill stuff, 1936 era jacobs maybe
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:53:09 AM »
A little town up by my girlfriends cabin,

There is a windmill tower n old windmill on it.

I've been eyeing for a couple of summers now,

(she never stops so I can get a close-up, ya-know!). LOL  :)

This was at one of the homes it looked like from the Hi-way.

She said it had been there forever, she has been going up there

since the 60's and I've only been going for three summers now

and only seeing windmills since last summer. lol    ;)

Anyway, a fellow that is friends with her family and spends

alot of time at the other cabin, (Her brothers place, closest neighbor

up there, about 200 yards thru forest can't see but can see when lights are on,

only other one about 2 miles down the valley then 6 miles or so to

this town I'm talking about),

This guy bought the place in town

that has the windmill n tower on it.

Her brother told me last sunday that all this guy wants is the

tower n windmill left up and for somebody, {he said, he said wouldn't

John, (thats me), want this stuff},

to pick it all up and haul it off.

Her brother told me that there is a extra gen head sitting there

with a hub but no prop. And 18 single cell batteries, I'd also

get all the controls and pretty much everything but the tower n windmill on it.

The guy wants it for only the looks, (yard ornament type thing), I quess.

I was also told it's got a 1936 pat number or something like that.

So this weekend, between trying to finish trimming out the windows and the

floor baseboard trim, I'm headed over there, We're taking the trailer up anyway,

(Cleaning up some of my windmill n tower type parts I've collected this past year)

and we usually end up hauling it home empty, but I dought that I'll be able to

bring much of this stuff home, yet.

But I'll get it into storage and get the info off every thing and take many pictures.

Hopefully I'll have a great post next week !!!!!!!!

:)

He was so very glad to have it hauled off,

Haven't checked it yet, HOPE IT WORKS!

The Jacobs stock control box

I don't think I'll be using that on anything.

Many things to play with

I got a lot of paper work with this stuff

If anybody wanted to see it I could get it scanned and post

Battery Bank-

Upon closer looking,

The cells are a type-

"McGraw-Edison Co."

"In 1957, McGraw bought Thomas A. Edison Inc. and formed McGraw-Edison Co., ... In 1985, McGraw-Edison was purchased by Cooper Industries of Houston, Texas"

The paper work that came with this stuff

for the batteries-

"The Edison Storage Battery"

"B.Hawley Smith Co."

 The batteries are NiFe-nichol/iron.

Almost indestuctible, read the paperwork on them

before you do anything to them.[don't go near

them with sulfuric acid]

There is a new post on the front page that cover's them pretty good.

Jacob's built the best small veriable pitch

blade setup ever built. There are people still

building part's for them i think.

36 volts-not much eguipment around for that.

Just a thought,Zubbly might can tell you how

to convert it to 24 volts.

DAMN wish i could find a deal like that.

I don't think these are anything like "SLA" batteries.

If thats the post you ment.

Like I posted the paper work is

"for the batteries-

"The Edison Storage Battery"

"B.Hawley Smith Co." "

Mainly sales type info and no real,

what to do with them in todays times.

When having to move them today,

(Girlfriend had to give back trailer borrowed,

"Archery Season" Ya know)

I noticed that the cases had all been painted black,

BUT,

I spotted what looked like it might be a tag under many coats of paint!!!

VERY cafefully doing only painter knows type tricks,

I managed to get it off and all the paint off it with-out!

Loosing the info on the tag!!!!!!!!!!

:)

Couldn't I just take them to a car wash and spray them off real good?????

The battery tops all look pretty crusted up.

O-

Elvin-

Don't be very "green"

This turbin looks like it has fallen off tower,

busted up pretty good

:(

Thanks
