I found some 5" chrome plated exhaust pipe and cut off square a 2&1/2 inch piece. I then made two puck board end plates.
Here the 16 magnets and spacers are ready for installation. The spacers are made from flat fiberglass rods. They are the same width and thickness as the magnets. 2"x.5"x.186"

All of the magnets and spacers are installed in this next photo.
There is a 1/4 inch gap between the first magnet and the last spacer. In the final assembly there will be shim spacers added to each magnet to make up this difference. The finished rotor will have a non-magnetic stainless ring covering the magnets. The rotor spins very true to the shaft. I should be able to get some good numbers for watts vs magnet thickness with this prototype.
