Hughs 4 FT under way.
« on: December 18, 2006, 02:07:54 AM »
This will be my 3rd. dual rotor disc alt. The magnets are on the way and the Hugh book. All purchased from are hosts. You know, the good guys.

The picture shows the 12"X 1/4" aluminum stator support plate. Also a 3/4' dia. shaft, shaft to hub adaptor and a larger shaft to plywood adaptor. This will afix the wooden blade mounting disc to the shaft. The smaller thin fiberglass disc is the magnet template.

Many more parts to round up.

hey jerry..

so are you going by the book on this one --or is it going to be jerry rigged?

could build two diffrent stators -one by the book and the other jerry rigged..

looks like its going to be a 8and6 setup.....im sure you will modify it to some

 extent................... ;}

OH come on Hiker, your gona let the cat out of the bag. Yes there will be a stator 100% stock and then a Jerry rigged and then a bunch of expiriments. We'll see?

If I'm all wet I'll just get a towel dry off and start over. LOL

Jerry, with the star wired stator, would you consider bringing out the common connection & rectifying it? I recall reading somewhere that on a very small gen there was a slight increase in amps with the "4 wire star"

I would definitely be curious to see if it boosts anything on your tests.

I do some dumpster diving at the HAVAC shops. They toss a bunch of good stuff.

Hi John.

I'm going to build the stator as per Hughs instructions and that is coils 1&4 siresed, coils 2&5 siresed and coils 3 & 6 siresed. This makes for phase 1, 2 and 3 then they are wire in normal star. The above coils are wound with 85 turns each of 16ga.

I'm also building a stator with as many turns of #22 ga. that will fit. These then will each have there own fullwave bridge rectifier. All of the DC outputs of the bridges will be wired in perelell. This is called Jerry Rigged.

You might do a board/google search on Jerry Rigged there was quite a lingthy debate and discusion of this some time ago.

I'm not here so much with this one to enter into a debate as to just evaluate the diferance of these 2 ideas. I think the general concensus from the board eleet is that I might just be a littel out of phase myself on this.

However I'm also old enough to remember that the earth is flat I think thats when star and delta were concived. LOL

I'm actully hopeing to do about 10 or 12 diferant compairisons. This is only if time permits.

The world is flat.I am one of those who think

you have a better way to get more power with less

money for part's.

I will be watching for the results of your test.

Have Fun

Thanks Elvin.

Early on when I posted the story about my 8" dual rotor wind generator and desribed winding the coils with 22ga. wire i remember some sugjestions that that small wire would not produce much amperage and it would most likely burn up.

The wind storm here in the NW last week should have burnt this littel genny with its littel wire to a crisp. Its still flying with now ill effects from flying in 60 mph winds over a 24 hr piriod.

I'm convinced this is do to my wireing scheem. I do hear roports on this board of much larger machinse with much larger wire and 20 mph furling burning up.

I must go for now I will add more thoughts to this latter.
