New small turbine hub
« on: December 20, 2006, 04:26:37 AM »
A VCR head will make an excellent hub for a small wind turbine

it has 2 .. TWO ! , smoothe as silk , ball bearings , plus it is beefy enough to drill and tap into for various size threads

as a bonus , it also has rows and rows  of concentric contacts on the inside which are used to transfer the video information from the tape

these contacts could be used transfer signals to a pitch control mechinism, not power of course , just the control information

Willib,

Have also seen it used as the bearing for an anemometer.

Smooth has silk is what you want and need for starting. The rest to me seems to be over complicating the turbine. But if its a challenge you want go for it Willib
