new coil
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:02:17 AM »
While my new coil is curing , i thought i would update you all on what i've been up to .

the new mini gen is coming along

it is 16 poles 12 coils 7/8" dia x 1/2" neos

i'm using .045"dia wire (two in hand) around 78 effective turns , stator will be 1/2" thick.

i went with two in hand because the resistance will be lower , i'm figuring 0.252 ohms per phase , roughly

this is its present form minus a segment

the stator is in four segments

if ya want to see something in particular i've got lots of pics

Hi Willib

How are the coils attached to the stator plates?

good question !

i had ideas to use the mounting bolts as tiepoints (connections to coils), but now i'm not so sure

since i put the mounts so close to the rotors i had to use stainless bolts and nuts

i've got other pics in my files , way ,way down at the bottom

here i am applying resin to the coil , about two layers into the process , i think it was.

i cant believe that i'm still flipflopping on whether i should continue to wind two in hand or not.The resistance will be twice as much ,cuz the coil will be half as thick, 0.250" , but single strand coils are easier to wind, and i could allways double them up , besides then i could put some ferrite in between them if i wanted , i think i just answered my own question Thanks !!

this is the wiring diagram i was proposing,

http://www.otherpower.com/images/scimages/2965/wiring_diagram

this is an early view of the stator, before i cut the perimeter and drilled the last four mounting holes

Although the stainless isn't magnetic it is succeptable to eddy
