Mini Vawt - single rotor idea
« on: April 22, 2007, 03:25:42 PM »
Just a diary entry, thinking out load as it were...

Had some bits lying around and threw them all together.

Parts

Bike wheel hub

  1. " diameter Chromed steel light fitting cover - quite thick
  2. 12" tall aluminum veins.
  3. Neo 3/4"x1/4" magnets

I'm thinking I could bolt the stationary stator onto the hub flange and mount inside a piece of scaffold pole, the benefit being - I could mount this way above my roof line to get clean air.

Being a vertical axis - I'm thinking it won't spin too fast, and maybe get away without resining the magnets in.

My knowledge of numbers of poles and stator winding thickness and number of turns is limited, therefore a lot more reading to do. The photo shows 10 magnets, but I am not sure what the final number will be?

I am hoping to achieve a low power trickle charger @ 12v, maybe 1 Amp if I am lucky??

Just sharing what I am doing/experimenting with at the moment - thoughts and help welcomed.

Looks good Ben, Keep Us Posted on that. Those blades look like the ones on ebay, where did you get them from?

I've messed around with savonous for a while I have a setup now that I think is good and will build a large one in a week or so ( I have all the gear now ). The improvments involve adding vertical lift blades to add lift on upwind parasitic areas . I this case to keep it easy to implement use four tines . This blocks out the flat approach areas . Don't mean to be a buttinsky just some thing to think about
