« on: June 12, 2007, 04:36:21 PM »
HI to all from Barbados  Since my tower came down i've modified and am ready to go up but the wife says "NOT BACK THERE" so i've had to move 300ft futher away. would 300 plus 45 for the tower be too long from  gen to rectifiers?  JAson

Hi Jason,

No disrespect but you may as well ask how long is a piece of string!!!

Without providing details of the important information such as system voltage, turbine output power, wire size, distance from rectifiers to batteries etc. even a mind reader would struggle to provide a sensible answer.

Your first post may well have been deleted by the editorial staff for a lack of information.

Regards

Darren

Not if you multiply the cross-section of the wire by a factor of about 8 compared to a size appropriate for a 45 foot run.  At three gauges per power of two that's about 9 gauges heavier wire.  And it's about 8 times the bux.

You might want to recitfy at the bottom of the tower to let you get away with only two wires for the 300 foot run.

Or consider running a higher voltage.  Doubling the voltge cuts the wire cross-section for a given loss percentage by a factor of four.
