E-Bay, FiberGlass Wind Turbine Blades
« on: July 29, 2007, 05:02:43 PM »
I now have two sets of blades from Texas, one set each from the two different  E-Bay sellers.

(magnet_master, jeff at CMS) 81.5" set

(magnet4less, allen) 6.8' set.

Both of these sets are the same as far as length, width and mounting holes.

And they are built pretty good and of fair quality.

The set from allen seemed a bit more on the "raw" side but, they are only 7.6 grams different between them!

The set from jeff seemed to be a bit better but, they do weight more, around 150 grams more each, and are 31.3 grams different between most and least.

Both sets needed sanding and painted, and I didn't go for the stock hubs so I'm doing it the hard way as is my style.

A Dbl pulley found at junk yards lawn mower pile, (sitting right on top unhooked by somebody else), that I picked up for $5.00 is what I'm trying to use for now.

(Was the 5/8" size needed for two different gen's I have ready)

So far, The holes I drilled are a tiny bit OFF, tiny being that the difference between blades tip to tip is off by less than a half inch.

With the E-bay hubs out there, (NTL's also), being less than $30. shipped. I will be buying one to use and pattern from, one of these next paydays.

For now I'm trying to set up my CMI stepper for testing and maybe the Ametek 30 next or also.

I'm in a really bad need of some charging volts so I hope to get a bank set up at 12 VDC and running on its own.

I'm going to try to build a tip-up tower base from a old sat.dish base turned over and should be able to get past the 10'-15' that I've been stuck at.

These new blades at 10' are a bit scary to walk around when turning!!!!

You all are safe from me posting any pictures, I haven't bought a new camera yet and old one still not working after last drop.  :(

Just a thought about your camera. Some manufactors are repairing cameras with factory defects and human caused defects very cheap right now because they want you to buy their products. Canon fixed my 4 year old camera free and paid shipping both ways.

Thanks !!!

But,

AudioVox

Wants $60

Shipped

To repair a $140. camera

Last time I checked, maybe 3 months back.

I'm thinking about a El-cheap-O, but should really look at a more camera type with real lens n stuff. I miss using my FX 35 but haven't ever missed the cost n waiting that type has!

 The Blades!

( On the CMI 28Lb stepper off E-bay for $0.99 !!!)

They have been turning very well in about no wind conditions!!!

At 10' behind shed and tree line, I'm getting up to 14 volts DC in to a small 17Ah SLA that was at 9 VDC to start with! The volts only got that high a few times with gusts of maybe 10-12mph just quessing but have watched my Anemometer for long enough to get a feel for wind speeds.

I finally finished the "K220" kit tonight so soon a system hooked flying even when I'm not there, should give me some charge volts.

The CMS (China Magnet source)

102" Blades showed up yesterday and today I got to check the mounting holes Vs the 81.5" ones, (These have two holes).

SWEET, The 102" set has three holes but the two inner most, (towards hub center), match up with the 81.5" ones! They are a bit more towards the end of the blade. The third hole is centered outward from these holes.

These blades are of pretty nice quality but do need some sanding and painting.

The blade has less tapper towards the tip and looked like a lot more angle towards the hub.

I'll weight them tomorrow and see what kind of matching they are at stock less paint n sanding.

:)

{Hey, NTL !!!!    Are you still around??????}

Thanks!

How are you?

Hows your kits going?

I'd like to try a charge control one!

"computer and other troubles"

Thats my life! OK, well maybe the other troubles part at least!

(hot water heater leaking at 6 this morning!)

Today I have to pull the starter from my toyletta, (lol), pickup and see why it don't! I'm thinking the  contact homemade part I put in 5 years back has failed.

I bought the right part the next day and just didn't see any reason to R&R untill needed. Now I've lost it but did find a spare I'd also built that day.

 AaHh, life!

At least the wind is blowing!

I'm OK.

Back to back vacations. #1 was enjoyable, but the `other' Florida amusement park is not my thing, especially in July.  #2 was a disaster of a fishing trip, with 6 brand new motors, in service about 50 days, all had been repaired already, and 4 didn't work, so instead of 5 private lakes we had one, and spent 3 days paddling in very high winds. Maybe it was a fluke, so I'll not mention what brand the outfitter bought 100+ motors from, and none of them work right.  Bound to get a bad batch of 100+ every so often.

Work is busy as a 1 legged man in a butt kicking contest.  I should be working now, but I need another vacation.

The kits are done for all practical purposes.  Still don't have comprehensive instructions; no time.

No operational problems from users, mostly difficulties deciding which resistors to use for the desired operational parameters.  Yahoo email me if you want, ghurd1, Controller in the subject.

Only Toyotas in my driveway for the last 18 years, except for a time sharing the driveway with a VW Rabbit diesel.

BTW, MERCURY started doing stuff in China for their dual-purpose boat motor / anchor.  They have the anchor part down pat.  Maybe the only 100% perfected 4-stroke anchor available?

LOL.  I noticed the `Ultra Low Emissions' sticker while paddling.  Must be real low.  That one didn't use 4 oz of gas in 8 days.  It was ultra quiet too.

(I hope I still sound bitter)
