Crude and ugly personal fan
« on: August 06, 2007, 12:05:44 AM »

using a 24v 4000? rpm motor and a small abs fan blade.  A/C fan consumed 28 watts (2.3a+ through inverter!), this version I get about an hr+ from a 4.8v 600mah nicd pack, or about 3 hrs+ from a 4.8v 2500mah nimh pack (all charged via solar).  Ugly I know, but works ok. Need to add a fuse and pick up a small 6v battery so it will make it through the night without swapping batteries :)

Doesn't matter if it is ugly or not!  It is run from RE and not from the grid.  I am finding out that one thing leads to another.  RE is like a virus with no cure.

timmy;

Just look at it this way:

Would you rather have a beautiful fan that did not work or a not so beautiful fan that worked?

Look at it that way and its a no brainer.

Besides, I did not find it ugly at all! Plus, unlike some on this board, you are doing not talking about doing. That in itself makes even the homeliest project a thing of beauty. Hope to see more from you as time rolls on. It never pays to belittle your work. You did it yourself from the ground up and used multiple skills to accomplish it. A touch of pride is in order. Beats watching TV, regardless.

Cheers.

Gota take stock of your devices(right?).  Get all your junk out and see what you can use .That DC motor didn't make it as a generator but happened to make a dc load you can use to calculate with. Carry on
