Whew, more than 7 hours off-grid today.
« on: August 26, 2007, 05:45:46 PM »
Well, I promise not to document each fart and whimper, but resiteing the main panel, and finally tilting it to a sensible angle away from vertical, and a nice sunny day today, has taken the system to >7 hours already off-grid and still going!  Nominal 82Ws of panel.  So the larger system (430W) to keep this system powered even mid-winter looks entirely plausible.

Looking better as the days go on! Maybe this is something I'll do to my laptop to replace my server at home some time. My servers pull 160w total.

Here is a snapshot from DamonHD's website on todays offgrid time (hope you don't mind me posting it Damon) :-)

Ah, that looks so pretty, and, yet ... familiar ...  B^>

I expect that yesterday will end up being the record for this entire year for one reason or another, at least until I do the major upgrade.  But another nice day is forecast today, so we'll see.

Dell seems to be flogging cheapish Linux laptops in the UK now, which might help with any replacement/upgrade that you eventually do.

(Oh, and I just exchanged email with the guys (apparently) at Intel working on the WiFi drivers for Linux, and the 'master' mode code is being worked on right now though still rather raw.  This means that I can turn off my stand-alone access point (~12W) and use the one in the laptop (~1W) for other machines in the house to get at our Internet connection.  Not going to save the planet, but another nice step in the right direction.)
