Hi,

No idea what you mean by a "glider swing" and am on a client site right now so can't do too much Googling yet!  Got any good URLs to start educating me?

The test gen that I have is a BIG brute; the FuturEnergy 1kW 48V PM gen, with a mass that needs turning of ~7kg/16lb.  But I am of course looking for something more suitable longer term...

I uploaded 2 photos of the bottle VAWT.  Laughing is OK. I did.  :-)

It has some issues with the coffee can lids being twisted.

It's certainly no worse than either of mine!

Damon- as I was surfing around I came across this optomized Benesh vawt foil. I collect airfoils (old hobby) so I did a screen capture of it and traced it in CAD so I could play with it. The article said that in testing it had something like 30% more torque.. That impressed me enough to swipe it and put it in the "someday" file. Seems like it would be easy to make a quikie hot wire cut foam mold and paint a couple smooth layers of epoxy on it so you could lay up a set of thin fiberglass (polyester) blades on it.

Have fun!  -Gus

Hi,

Yes, the paper was interesting but the technology is beyond my DIY abilities at present, though I may attempt to do an approximation with some acrylic glass that I never used.

I'm not convinces that the 'lump' isn't an artifact of their numerical approximation, but maybe it's right.

Anyway, yes, very interesting thanks!
