Sig file help
« on: October 31, 2007, 01:04:32 PM »
Okay.. it appears that the sig file is perhaps limited to 160 characters here? I want a picture, and a quote that is perhaps slightly over 100 characters. The link to the picture puts me over the limit and drops the last twenty characters off my quote.

Is there any known way around this? Any of you editors have access to the source code and can change the max sigfile length to more characters, like 200?

Host the image file on a URL that is smaller than the current one. Eg, imageshack or something like that. My URL would probably be smaller than the otherpower one too so I'm open to hosting that for you if you like.

Thanks, but I still think it will be a little too long. I'm experimenting with a jpg of the text. It's not right yet but will work. I'll try and clean it up later this afternooon.

Mr. Farmer,

Have you reduced the color input of your signature jpg.

I think I have reduced from 8kb to 2kb.

Ron;

Maybe he should use a tinyurl for the pic? Scoop has a character limit on the .sig. Not sure if that can be changed by the Admin but I know I can't find where or if I could.

Cheers.

VF, I looked at the page source.  You have two image files, there.  Why not make it into one?  Also, your image file for the text is so large it takes up half my screen.  What to you have for an image editor?  Something a bit better than paintbrush, I hope?

Alright I deleted the second pic of the text until I can make it smaller. No time at the moment.

I'm a little stupid on combining pictures. I made a BMP in paintbrush and converted it to a jpg with photoshop.

See if this works for you:

I put the text and image together, squeezed it down to 1kb.

(I also cleaned up Ron's grammar)

If you like it, please make a copy and store it with your files.  I will delete this copy later.

Steven,

Thank you so much for spending time to make that avatar for me.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but I liked Ron's quote "just" the way he wrote it.  Kinda seems the point to me when you're quoting someone, that you don't clean it up any, else we get Shakespeare saying "This above all: to thine own government be true", because someone has "cleaned it up".

I asked for help and I got it, I do really appreciate the thing you made up for me, but I did sorta have a reason for making my picture and my sig different files. I can change one or the other as I see fit. I can do this for myself when I get some time to learn about it and experiment some. In my first post I hadn't figured out how to do text to bmp to jpg, but now I can do that. I just need to play with the size of the files some.

The real problem in my book is this thing called Scoop which has eaten up two hours of my life already while I try to express myself and make text into bmp into jpg, just because of out-dated, buggy, forum software with 160 character limits on .sig files.

Maybe .sig files with pictures and long quotes are not what's important here anyway. Maybe I got carried away with being flashy this morning.

Don't make the text into a picture. just add the text after the picture as normal text. Like in my sig here with  W o o f  -={(  after the picture.

Like I said above

just add the text after the picture in your sig

you can change it anytime as it is just text

doesn't take up many bytes eather.

Woof;

Problem is Scoop has a short .sig character limit.

Cheers.
