How do you 'view' Fieldines?
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:33:52 PM »
I was wondering how we universally 'see' the Fieldlines forum

Using a recent article of mine (sorry, but it includes an image) as a benchmark.

http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2007/10/28/161524/33

This is how it looks to me on a 1440x900 resolution 19" LCD screen.

For the image below I lowered the horizontal pixel size to 640 to help reduce file size , the vertical happens to be 400 pixels (for me).

This was just a Print screen using Windows XP, and then pasted into an image editor (photoshop) and resized horizontally to 640 pixels to keep Kurt happy :)

Please show us yours...

Ben.

Only 800*600 on this one, get used to it I guess, on other machines I have higher resolution but I use this the most.

A,

Can you guys scroll down, and take the snap-shot or not?

I veiw fieldlines from the 'nested' view? Ive heard things like, if you screw around with the settings at the bottom of the page, you can drastically change the way you see the board, differing from how you saw it when you first logged on, and didnt mess around with the box's at the bottom of the screen.

I will post again just shortly, as I can not see this as im replying.

i view it at 1024 x 768 pixels i used to view it at 800 x 600 until i was able to freecycle up a better monitor mite have to go back to 800 x 600 soon as this monitor has been flaky lately.

Display: [Nested^] Sort: [Highest Rated First^]      [Oldest First]     [[Change]]

Threaded            Unrated, then Highest       Newist First

Minimal                Highest Rated First         Oldest First

          Nested              Lowest Rated First

          Flat                   Ignore Ratings

          Flat Unthreaded

You can see this logged in or out. At the bottom of the screen. Would definitly change the view.

I don't see any difference, other than different operating systems.

I'm running Linux Mepis (64bit) Ubuntu KDE 3.5 Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.3) Gecko/20060201 Firefox/2.0.0.3 (MEPIS)

Screen resolution 1024X768

Looks like those posted.

Stephent - yes, running ubuntu here, gutsy gibbon :)

Messed around with the settings to get 'panels', made one similar to the 'dock' in macs and then the menu bar at the top. I've set my settings to 'flat' on fieldlines, before it was really annoying me with the comments going over to the right in replies, makes ya have to scroll the screen.

Not to be a wise acre but, of course they all look the same. You are limited to the equipment you view them on. Like showing you how great an HDTV picture is in a commercial you view on your standard TV.

It seems obvious to me?

Cheers.

   Hi.

I found a 135 watt 3 phase induction motor in the skip (dumpster),

stripped it down and want to make a small generator - Does this look

   possible with this motor?

Ideally without having to use a lathe or milling machine - I believe

It's about 48 or 50 columns wide ? at least in

my view and I have to scroll over even in

smallest text......unless I post a reply like I'm

doing now....

Hey....don't mind me....I'm just grouchy today

shopping or anything visibility was baadd

I doubt if you could see the car in front of you

if it was more than a mile away.

norm, what screen resolution are you running?? (for windows right click on an empty section of your desktop click properties select the settings tab from the top of the box that comes up then tell me what the little slider thing is set to) as long as everybody obeys the picture size rules you should not have to scroll right to read the board?? that is why we set the size limit at 640 pixels wide.

Remember I'm a retired self employed electronical technician.(No pension, loads of experience)  I thought they were talking about differences in the forum options making the page look different.

You are right, you don't need to sound so smart all the time.

I always keep non-GUI tools around "Just In Case.".  You never know when your GUI will take a dump and all you're left with is 40x24 text.  I even have an exercise for my college students to do where they have to restore a mission-critical windows server (that has no backups :) ) with nothing more than a floppy disk.

Alan;

So was the "single disk" a basic Linux boot disk with a couple tools on it?

I don't "do" windows but hear thats a common recovery path. Or a bootable live CD.

Just curious.

Cheers.

Tom :

Not meening to hijack your question to Alan, but this is what I've done here on 2003 DELL servers take a hike every once in a while. We have a "LOAF" Linux On A Floppy. bootable and enough horse power to see network and or recover boot .

Alan?

Yes, that's my 'turn of the hour' view too, all too often.

I note that your clock (bottom right) indicates this rather well.

My point, exactly.

Nobody believed me. Been seeing that at top of the hour for over a year. I get it a lot on bottom of the hour now too. Killing cookies temporarily fixifies it. Very temporary.

Cheers.

Ha!  I was a teenager in the early 90's, and remember being on a BBS ALL NIGHT sometimes, downloading "Gif Files" at 5 minutes per download.  You all know what I'm talking about.

I LOVE Lynx!  I used to work at a place that had web access blocked.  But I could run PuTTY and SSH into a server, and use Lynx on that end.  Just can't see any pictures!
