Building Dan's 10' version
« on: February 17, 2008, 12:48:07 AM »
Hi all,

Yes I have the bug. I bought Hugh's book from Dan and have read it a couple times already and use it for reference. I have decided to build Dan's 10' version as my first machine because I fell in love with it and it's a proven design. My intention is to follow the detailed specifications/drawings as much as possible. Thus far I have the coil winder, molds for the magnet rotors and stator done and have just finished (a few minutes ago!!!) winding the coils. I will be posting pic's when I have a chance. Just thought best to start the diary now before I get to far.

You guys are great and must keep sharing your knowledge if we want to keep progressing even if at times you must be tired of us newbies!

Dan maybe if you can crop big enough on google you will soon be able to add one more of your machines to your map but this time located in Ontario, Canada!

Hi Marv,

Thanks for pointing me to this map that is so neat, as soon as I have a decent picture to use as my site ID I will add my location. This morning I was doing the stator connections and soldering, door bell rings UPS delivery man with my magnets!!! Quality looks good but unfortunately I did not buy them from Dan, actually I did not buy them at all!! They were a gift purchased from E-bay the only thing is that they are N42's hopefully it won't change the dynamics too much. I would have liked to buy them from Dan if nothing else but to show support for this great site and the ton of information they provide for free. Thanks Dan!!

This week hopefully I will get my magnet rotors, cast the stator and start with a bit of metal work. I'm having a bit of trouble finding decent wood for the blades will probably have to laminate. Will see...later...

Marv,

It will going on top of an existing 40' hydro pole that is already installed in our backyard for now. We will be moving in the near future (1-2 years), once we have settled in at our new location I will be erecting a fancier tower for sure.

UPS on a holiday, the surprise was the $54.00 brokerage/duty fee. (I hate those guys, so much for free trade!)

Pics are coming.

Update,

Since I'm still researching which system seems to be the best way to go for casting the stator and magnet rotors I decided to do a bit of metal work this weekend. I have uploaded a few pictures to show progress thus far.

Update,

Don't know why but I did the same thing as last night (I think) but seems to work better today. i.e. know you can see the pictures.
