Need Help on Batteries
« on: April 05, 2008, 06:08:30 PM »
First Question: I was give 17 UPS12-140 Batteries. the batteries seem to be dead. can they be brought back to a usable state. how do I check them out.

Second Question: I was also given a second batch a batteries. 31 RBC11_2(2x12V/17AH). They are two batteries stuck together with double sided tape and have a fuse and quick disconnect plug on them. what would be the best way to tie them together into a battery bank to get the best use from them.

You might try something like the following to bring the batteries back.

P.S.  I've not tried them so I'd love to hear your results.

Other member here may have better advise on this subject.

Re: Battery Bank

You need to make certain the batteries are in comparable state and have relatively the same capacitance.

If you want to run those RBC-11's at 12V then you have to remove the fuse and connect them parallel rather than in a series as they are manufactured. I also use 8 of these for my Harbor Freight Panels (6 panels). You can cut the batteries apart with a hack saw blade inserted between them to slice the foam tape if desired but I just leave them together and rewire for parallel.
